Chapter 106 by Actiaeon Actiaeon

Gather everyone

"Are you sure?" Yasmin asks, she is sitting at the table across from you.

"It should be repaired enough to make the journey," Rachel adds, standing above everyone.

"I think we should go," Haruka agrees, sitting close to your right.

"Yasmin, you don't have to go," you tell Yasmin.

She looks at you, she gives you a thankful look. Her hand is touching her midsection. You know what she is thinking, and you agree. However, you watch as she steels herself for what she has to do.

"No, I should go; I am the only doctor," she forces herself.

"OK," you say, worried, "everyone, get ready for leaving, we will be leaving in a couple of hours."

"I'll do some final checks on the shuttle," Rachel says, heading out of the room.

"I'm going to gather some supplies," Haruka adds, leaving.

After Haruka leaves, you turn towards Yasmin.

"Are you sure?" You ask, "this could be dangerous."

She looks at you, "yes, if anything happens to you, I need to be there."

You nod at her, "OK."

"I'm going to the medical supplies ready," she says, leaving, "however, there is something I need to show you first."

You follow her to the medical bay, following not too far behind her; and more than once watching her rear sway, side to side. Leaving the white-grey corridors you enter the sterile white medical bay; now clear of clutter. Next, to one of the beds, you see a table, a sheet covering something underneath.

"So me and Rachel have been working on this in our free time," she says, heading towards the covered object.

"I hope you like it," she says, pulling the sheet off.

Underneath you find an arm, a robotic arm; only part of the forearm and hand left. It seems to have come from one of the long-dead robots; however, it has been cleaned up and looks almost brand new.

"We thought it could replace the one you lost," she says.

"Thank you," you say.

"It does need to be interfaced with your nervous system, so if you could lay down on the bed," she says.

You follow her lead, laying down onto the bed; she is now standing on your left.

"OK," she says picking up the arm, "this should interface with your nervous system,"

You push your stump into the socket, afterward, she tightens the straps securing the forearm to the remainder of yours. The thing feels heavy, at first, you worry that it weighs too much, when you realize it is only slightly heavier than your other arm; you had already gotten used to the feeling. Locked into place, you feel the pain in your phantom arm subside; as the replacement limb begins to feel like your own; like part of you.

"Wow," you say.

"Try to move it," Yasmin asks, exited.

You try to clench your new fist and watch as the thing does as you command. Then you move your new limb across the bed, amazed at how similar it is to control. Similar to your own, biological, arm. The only thing off with it being almost numb like feeling as sends no signal for texture or heat to your brain.

"This is amazing," you tell Yasmin.

"How is the interface?" she asks, "that is the part I worked on."

"It works great, it feels like a real arm," you say, continuing to test it.

"Thanks, Rachel did the rest though," she says, smiling, "you should go show her."

You sit up, using your new arm, further testing its abilities. The task is completed smoothly like you never lost your arm; you feel whole again.

"I'll meet you at the shuttle, right?" you say.

"Yes, I'll meet you there," she tells you, giving you a quick kiss.
