Chapter 3 by archer15 archer15

Where does the wish take us?

From the Beginning: Xander not knowing his role

The first day of school had been a fairly wild one for Xander.

Cordelia and her friends, still bitches.

Willow and Jesse, awesome buds.

New girl Buffy, woman of his dreams. He couldn't believe when they'd accidentally bumped into each other she actually said, "Can I have you."

Even with all of that happening, the craziest thing of the day so far had been that he had actually gone to the library by himself. Without Willow. Not surprisingly, it hadn't taken long before he had become lost and ended up spending more time looking for a book than he planned on. This also meant that the new librarian seemed to forget about him.

"Why can't you people just leave me alone!"

"Because you are the Slayer," Xander heard the new librarian say. He popped his head out and saw that the new girl Buffy was here.

He missed most of the next few lines. They were going really fast and he was distracted by staring at Buffy, but it was clear they were talking about something supernatural? Was there some new kind of role-playing group in the library?

It took him a moment to realize they were being serious when he heard the librarian say, "I've already identified the Provider. His name is Alexander Harris. Do you think it's just a coincidence you and he could be in the same place at the same time?"

"Let me guess, you want to watch that too," Buffy said before storming out.

The librarian was clearly flustered before following after her. "Uh, what?" Xander mumbled as he stepped out from the stacks.

"I know you're the Slayer," Xander told Buffy as they stood outside the Bronze.

"Was there an announcement I missed? Does everyone know this?"

"I know you think you're something called the Slayer," Xander said, not really believing what he was talking about. "But I don't believe any of this. Slayer, vampires, Source. I just want to keep my friends safe."

"Source?" Buffy said. "What do you know about that?"

"Nothing, just that it is supposed to be me," Xander said. "It's all nonsense. Right now though we need help Willow."

"Right," Buffy said as she let out a deep breath. "Let's go."

Does Buffy manage to function without Xander? When does he learn what he can do?
