Friday Night Football

It was late on Friday afternoon and Mark was on the road, heading to the Eagles football match. Driving the Jeep up there was Winter, her own car that she took quite a lot of care for. In the back seat was Daniel who nervously fiddled with his own hands.

“Thank god Bryce got me out of that detention,” Mark turned to speak to Daniel behind him, relaxing in the passenger seat of his car.

“Yeah true, you finally get to meet my girlfriend tonight too,” he told him.

The girl that Daniel met over the recent summer holidays attended South Miami college. With no care in the world for football, Daniel was just excited to get a chance to see her for the weekend.

“You two can crash here with us if you like, might save you the drive, don’t think Liv will mind,” he told him.

“Thanks Daniel but I’m meeting some girls out for breakfast in the morning so we’ll be heading home straight after the game tonight,” Winter politely said, while she drove.

“That’s cool. If anything changes, just let me know, the offer still stands,” he told them.

The three cruised down the highway, pumping their music loud. The famous ‘Life is a Highway’ blasted from the car speakers as they sung along. Right there and then, Mark again found himself appreciating his life, how could he complain about anything.

When they finally arrived, there wasn’t much time before the start of the game so they would be meeting up with Liv outside of the stadium. Unless he was just imagining it, Mark noticed that Daniel was twitching a little bit as they walked to the Sharks home field. His fingers kept moving as he walked, hands shaking. Very much a sense of nervousness.

Mark didn’t know if it was about how nervous he was to see her again or nervous to introduce her to him. “Are you alright man?” he stopped to ask him.

“Yeah. Sorry, I’m just being paranoid,” he said, shaking his head a little.

“Paranoid about what?”

“That she’ll dump me, see that compared to everyone else from our college, I look pretty much like shit,” he straight up said as they walked to the outside of the stadium.

Mark had never heard Daniel speak like that about himself. Yeah he wasn’t the most popular or handsome guy going around but he was doing fine for himself.

“Man, you’ve got nothing to worry about. Look at me,” Mark directed his attention back on him. “Look who I’m dating,” he said, pointing at the beautiful Winter right next to them. She smirked, shaking her head.

“If I can somehow pull that off, you know anything is possible.”

That cheered him up a little, Daniel started to laugh quietly, “Thanks brother.”
