Framed?

Juliet Hague walked into his office with two bodyguards, big men in sunglasses.

Damien stood. His sister and Becca had retired to a side room in order to finish “cleaning up”.

“Hello again Miss Hague. It’s been a while since we last met in person. I do hope this visit isn’t a precursor to something terrible.”

Juliet didn’t speak to him and immediately took a seat in front of his desk.

She sighed. Probably not a good sign.

“Damien...there’s been a development.”

“I’m listening.”

“You’ve been a good earner and as trustworthy as one can find in this business so I’m just going to come out and say it. They found...it.”

“Who found what?”

She sighed again. “I’m not bugged, and neither are you. So we can speak freely. You last supervisor. Law enforcement found his body.”

Damien kept his face neutral.

“I’m sorry to hear that. We didn’t get along, but I am sorry to hear that he had passed. Was he sick?”

Now she just looked angry.

“Fuck off Damien. Everyone knows you either killed him or had him killed. This is serious.”

“I assure you, if I killed my boss, I would remember. However, I don’t remember putting a contact on my old boss and so, by my own logic, I am innocent of murder.”

“Huh. Well I hope you have an alibi because law enforcement thinks you did it. In fact, I’m only an hour ahead of them, if that. You’ll be picked up soon. Make sure it isn’t here.”

“How exactly did they come to the conclusion that I killed my old boss?”

“Anonymous witness.”

“Who?”

“I fucking said they were anonymous. Anyway, we will try and find out more. Until then, you’ll get a lawyer. Don’t talk to anyone else. Talk about your business and you won’t make it to your trial.”

“You don’t need to threaten me.”

“Yes I do. It’s my job to. For what it’s worth...I’m sorry. Say your goodbyes for a bit.”

With that she left the office, her team taking the tunnel to the adjacent building.

Damien sat staring at his hands.

“Fuck.”
