What's next?
Five Years Later, an interview with a Krypto-Wolf.
She was checked for her papers when she made it to the perimeter leading into New Gotham, the tole guard giving her the green light and giving back her paperwork along with her press ID badge when she was waved out to enter the city. Driving down the road to enter the sprawling old city, Lois Lane smiled to herself at the opportunity to finally get the scoop of the century!
“So, Jimmy, are you as excited as I am?” Lois asked the photographer in the next seat as he checked his cameras while Lois kept her eye on the road, entering a busy street on her way to a hotel to stay in.
“Yeah, though haven’t other news groups covered this before. It’s been five years now and everyone’s pretty much gotten used to the idea that vampires and werewolves exist. Isn’t the Daily Planet kinda treading old ground bringing up the lycanthropes in Gotham?”
Stopping at a light, Lois checked the time on the dashboard, along with the GPS to where she was headed. “Well yeah, the ‘Wolf King’ pretty much went full disclaimer after the entire affair, it’s a little hard to hide the fact this city has giant animal people walking around when it’s a full moon.”
Looking out on the streets, the city looked normal; with cars driving and people crossing the streets and going about their daily business save for one significant difference. Trees several stories high loomed over some of the buildings along with plant life that jutted out of the seams and cracks of the streets and walkways. It was as if someone had taken a city and a redwood forest and smashed them together. From what she was told there was NO way to clear any of the plant life, every attempt only had it all grow back faster than bamboo. Even downing one of the trees would have it grow back in the span of a couple of days. And no one dared touch the one in the heart of the city, the ‘world tree’ some had called it. Easily the tallest living thing in the city, its branches stretched out several blocks in every direction, some even considered that its presence leached away the pollution in the air and soil, returning life to what was considered for the longest time as a grave town.
“But we’re not HERE to interview the Wolf King Jimmy, I’ve got someone else in mind.”
Bringing the car over to the front of a moderate looking hotel on the north end of New Gotham, Lois Kent and Jimmy Olsen unpacked and got ready for the interview they had planned. Checking their recording equipment and gear as Lois took off her coat and checked the time. “You about ready Jimmy? We’ve got about an hour to meet our host. She’s one of the werewolves living in the city.”
“A werewolf?” Asked Olsen, a little confused. “But its still mid-day, and the full moon isn’t out this week.”
“Pff, get with it Jimmy, remember the interviews in the past? Lycanthropes can change during ANY night, the full moon just makes the decision for them when its up, no I’ve been planning this for months.”
“Who are we meeting?”
Gesturing for him to follow her out the motel room, Lois and Jimmy stepped out into the mid day and waited out into the parking lot, watching the woman stare up into the air until he heard the same thing she did. A sonic boom. Up in the sky they could make out a flying object heading their direction, fast as an airplane and far more precise in the air, the blonde coloured object beelined straight for them before stopping just feet from their spot in the parking lot, the wake of air making Jimmy squint as dust got in his eyes.
Rubbing his eyes and blinking, Jimmy Olsen looked up and gasped at the floating creature levitating a foot off the ground in front of them. It looked like one of the werewolves he had seen in the pictures, but she was out in the broad daylight, and he KNEW it was a she with her flaring hips and three sets of breasts lining down her chest and mid stomach. He never seen one up so close or realised just how massive they were when they changed. But this one was different. Instead of a lupine tail, this one sported something almost reptilian that was as long as she was tall, and she was pretty damn tall at 15 feet! Her lupine head sported a pair of horns that arched back like a tuning fork behind her mane of blonde fur. And she had four arms, her first set of clawed hands resting at her sides while the second pair rested at her thighs, a friendly smirk on her snout when her clawed feet finally touched the ground.
“Jimmy, meet our guest for the interview; Power Girl!”
Crouching down on one knee so she could sit on the pavement, the massive female creature lounged before the two so that they could speak eye to eye. “It’s good to see you again Lois, how have you been?” Asked the blonde Kryptonian werewolf in a deep feminine voice, resting her hands in her lap while her saurian tail curved to rest in front of her. Moving towards her with her arms outstretched, Lois gave Kara a hug that made the female wolf chuckle, feeling like she was hugging a toddler compared to her size and mass. “I’m doing well Kara, Clark says hello.”
“Wow…” Stammered Jimmy, averting his eyes with a hot blush as he realised that he had a giant wolf woman sitting in front of him in the nude, despite being covered completely in honey coloured fur that obscured her entire body, it didn’t take away the fact that she was completely naked out in the parking lot. “Should we have the Planet blur some of this when we get back?” Asked Olsen as he pointed at his camera in his hand.
“Sure Jimmy… I’ll just go back and put on my three tops and pants where I left them back in my dresser.” Kara replied sarcastically, rolling her eyes. “I’m a giant wolf, they don’t make clothes for my body type.”
Nodding back to Jimmy and prepping for their interview, Lois checked her hair and face just when Jimmy gave her the cue that they were recording.
“This is Lois Kent from the Daily Planet reporting from New Gotham, and behind me I have the former Power Girl of the Justice League with us for an exclusive interview today, thank you for letting us speak with you Power Girl.”
“Why thank you Mrs. Kent, happy to be out here to speak with you.”
Most of the interview continued naturally before the camera, with Lois going over Kara’s life in New Gotham and details of Dracula and his involvement during the so called ‘War of the Cycle’. She admitted she wasn’t there for the end of it all, but she had gone into details of how Dracula had left Gotham and everyone still inside were left to rebuild. Most of the populace that had left before the fire wall had been erected by Dracula had returned once it was down. But afterwards Cadmus and the US government had effectively bordered the city limits into a loosely guarded animal sanctuary as well as a rebuilding city. She didn’t include in the interview that Cadmus and the Legion of Doom actually tried to find ways to get samples of Lycanthropy out of the city for study but all their attempts failed miserably with those who tried being escorted out of the city by a patrol of werewolves at best or never coming back out at worse.
The terms of the truce between Dracula and the Wolf King were that the lycanthropes were not permitted to leave the Gotham area unless under dire circumstances or turn others outside of its walls. Dracula had not been seen in the five years since after the truce was agreed upon but then again, he had gone centuries not being found and faded into legend and myth, and it appeared he wished to do so again.
When pressed about her current state and that even while in broad daylight she was in her werewolf form, Kara went on to explain that due to her Kryptonian physiology, her body picks up lunar light just as easily as solar light regardless of where she is on the Earth, making her transformation permanent. After all, It’s a full moon somewhere.
“It must be frustrating to be stuck like that, how do you manage?” Asked Lois as she brought the microphone to the wolf’s mouth.
Shrugging her shoulders, the large krypto-wolfess tossed her long blonde hair, smiling as she answered. “I’ve managed pretty well, after all I wasn’t ALONE during that time and quiet frankly, I’ve found a sense of peace being what I am, I’m even raising a family, which wasn’t something I had considered in my past life. But there it is.”
“Well there you have it everyone, a very stimulating interview with our very own Power Girl, this is Lois Lane, signing off.” Getting the all clear from Jimmy as he lowered the camera, Lois looked up to Kara with a warm smile.
“You know I was told by Clark that you had kids, but I’ve never seen them.”
Leaning in closely, Kara’s smile seemed almost impish for a massive wolfess. “Do you want to meet them? It might help for your interview, give some of those competitors to the Daily Planet something to fume over.”
Tempted by the offer, Lois waved Jimmy over and told him to get a fresh camera ready. When the two were ready, Kara sat up and held them close to her furry body before taking off like a rocket to fly towards the world tree at the heart of the city.
