First Test

Just before 7 pm, a nicely dressed man who looked about forty came in. As I bused a table near the front, I saw him looking around. Dawn, the cute 20 year old hostess, greeted him.

"Yes, I'm meeting someone," said the man, but I don't think she is here yet."

"Table for two then?" asked Dawn.

"Yes, please," said the man. He looked nervous. I noticed he had no wedding ring. He was seated.

I kept busing tables. At 7:15, a woman about the man's age came in. She scanned the restaurant. She had curly auburn hair pinned to the back of her head, green eyes, a few freckles and pouty lips. She wore a dark red, sleeveless dress which showed off her well toned body. She saw the man who had entered earlier. She walked over to him, and I followed, pretending to be busy picking up used dishes.

"Kevin?" the woman asked.

"Yes, and you must be Vivian," the man said.

"Yes, great to finally meet you in person," she said.

I took it the two were on a first date, and decided this might be the perfect opportunity to try the ring.

"Sorry, I'm late," said Vivian, offering no explanation as to why she was late.

"Don't sweat it," said Kevin.

I kept my eye on the two as the evening went on. They each had a glass of wine and chatted over dinner. When they got up to leave, I made my way behind them, pointed the ring at the woman, and hit the red stone.

Vivian froze in her tracks.

"Everything OK?" asked Kevin.

Vivian looked at Kevin. Her chest started to heave a bit, and she licked her lips. "Yes, I had a wonderful time. Could you walk me to my car, Kevin?"

"Would be delighted to," he said.

I watched them though the cafe's windows. When they got to Vivian's car, she threw her arms around him and nearly jumped on him as she gave him a very, very passionate kiss. The kiss lasted almost a minute before she broke free and said something to him. They walked to another car, I assumed was Kevin's, and drove off in it.

"You're welcome, Kevin," I thought to myself.

I had used the ring, and now it was no good until tomorrow.

I finished up work, and when I left, I noticed Vivian's car was still in the parking lot. I wondered if she had been too horny to drive or was just thinking of the best way to get to her place or Kevin's in hurry. I walked back to campus and headed to the dorm. I did some studying while Mike played Halo on his computer then went to sleep.
