Chapter 4 by Creature0909

What is Blaze's Adventure?

Finding Her King of Fire

With a joyful yawn at the new day, Blaze stretched languidly, her lithe purple form silhouetted against the grand balcony of her palace. Below, her kingdom in the Sol Dimension sprawled like a living tapestry of vibrant greens and shimmering golds, bathed in the warm, eternal glow of the sun crystals that dotted the landscape. The air carried the faint, sweet tang of blooming flame lilies from the gardens, mingling with the distant hum of market chatter and the rhythmic clang of artisans at work. She was so glad to be back in the Sol Dimension. Sure, Sonic's world was a thrill—those high-speed races with friends left her heart racing—but as ruler, she knew her place was here. A princess couldn't afford endless vacations; the weight of the crown reminded her of that every time she felt the cool metal against her fur.

She decided to venture out, to mingle with her people, listen to their worries, and spot what needed mending. As she descended the sweeping marble stairs, her tail swishing softly behind her, she waved to a pair of servants polishing the ornate banisters. Her keen cat ears picked up their hushed conversation, words floating up like smoke from a hidden fire. "Can you believe she's not dating anyone now?" one murmured, a young feline with wide eyes. The other, older and more weathered, replied, "To be fair, it's not like she has time for dates." The first nodded reluctantly. "I know, but I'm worried for her. She shoulders so much alone—too much, maybe. Though she's still our kick-butt fire princess!"

Blaze let them gossip in peace, a small smile tugging at her lips as she paused on the landing. Their words lingered, stirring something in her chest. The kingdom had indeed picked up pace lately—trade routes bustling again, festivals planning under the watchful eye of the guards—but nothing truly dangerous. Yet. She continued to the throne room, the heavy doors creaking open to reveal the vast chamber with its vaulted ceilings painted like a starry night, flames dancing in eternal braziers along the walls. Sinking into the plush velvet of her throne, she let her mind idle on their concern. Dating hadn't been high on her list, not with Eggman Nega's shadow looming large. That madman had nearly shattered the Sol Emeralds in their last clash, his machines tearing through the skies like vengeful storms. The memory made her claws flex against the armrests; he was still out there, plotting in some twisted corner of the multiverse, and it gnawed at her resolve.

Her thoughts drifted to the idea of a partner. A powerful prince at her side would be more than outstanding—it would be a lifeline. She leaned back, adjusting her posture as visions flickered: him standing vigilant by the emerald vault, his presence a shield against threats. He'd offer extra hands to guard the sacred gems, a beacon of hope for her people weary from past invasions. Most importantly, he'd be someone she could trust utterly—with her heart, her soul, her future. The thought warmed her, chasing away the throne's chill, but it also brought a pang of loneliness she rarely acknowledged.

Unfortunately, few in her dimension measured up. The men here were kind, some brimming with untapped potential—like the young warriors training in the arenas—but none screamed "king." They lacked the fire, the unyielding spirit to rule beside her. Her mind wandered to other dimensions, and she chided herself for entertaining these girlish daydreams again, cheeks heating under her fur. Yet she couldn't deny the spark; romance with certain outsiders felt possible, even natural.

Silver came to mind first, the silver hedgehog from a ruined future, another dimension traveler like her—though he seemed more trapped by fate than free. His naivety was endearing, a wide-eyed optimism that could be honed into wisdom with time. Blaze had seen his potential during their shared battles; he could lead one day, rallying allies with that unshakeable sense of justice. But Silver had flaws: too trusting, veering into overconfidence, always leaping to help without a thought for his own safety—sometimes outpacing even Sonic's recklessness. And there was that strange aura of familiarity between them, like echoes of a shared past she couldn't quite grasp. It made her pause, heart skipping. Next flashed Sonic, the blue blur who embodied freedom itself. But she dismissed him as quickly as he appeared in her thoughts. Sonic would despise the throne's constraints; he had the heart of a leader, sure, guiding teams through chaos with effortless charisma, but chaining that wild spirit? Unthinkable. She could never ask it of him. Shadow crossed her mind briefly—the ultimate life form, brooding and powerful—but she knew him too little, their paths crossing only in fleeting alliances against greater evils. No, he was a lone wolf, not a partner.

She pondered other males she'd encountered—Knuckles with his grounded strength, Tails with his inventive genius—but honesty **** her to admit she might be grasping at straws. Did she even need someone now? Leaning deeper into the throne's cushions, she voiced it aloud, her voice echoing softly: "I'm okay by myself, right?" The words hung heavy as she delved deeper, confronting the future. She wasn't getting younger; the Sol Emeralds demanded eternal vigilance. Who would protect them when she was gone? Who would safeguard her people from threats like Nega? Blaze shoved the questions aside, tail lashing. That day was far off... wasn't it?

Leaving the throne room, she fetched a goblet of chilled spring water from the sideboard, the cool liquid soothing her parched throat as she paced the dining hall. Sunlight streamed through arched windows, casting golden patterns on the long oak table that dominated the space—currently barren, save for a few scattered parchments. Her mind swam with futures unspoken, gnawing like a rabid beaver at her peace. Why did this weigh on her so suddenly?

Glancing at her reflection in the polished stove, she saw the table's emptiness mirror her own solitude, chairs pushed aside like forgotten dreams. A warm vision bloomed unbidden: the table alive with laughter, platters heaped with roasted fruits and spiced meats. Tiny kittens—hers—tumbled about, their fur a mix of purple and silver, chattering about their adventures in the palace gardens or lessons with the scholars. She imagined their small paws tugging at her skirts, eyes bright with curiosity as they shared hopes and dreams. A deep, reassuring voice cut through the din: "Enough, you two—give your mother a break." The father figure was hazy, but his presence filled the hall with security, a hand on her shoulder conveying quiet strength. Blaze's breath hitched, a soft ache blooming in her chest as she leaned against the cool stone wall, the imagined warmth contrasting the hall's quiet chill.

Her thoughts circled back to the one candidate who lingered: Silver the Hedgehog. A chuckle escaped her, light and unexpected, as she replayed their history through fresh eyes. From their first meeting, it was as if magnets drew them close—Blaze understood Silver instinctively, and he her, like souls who'd known each other for lifetimes despite the multiverse's vastness. She cherished their talks, his naivety sparking her patience, turning into profound connections. During the Crossworlds Grand Prix, while rivals hurled barbs, they'd exchanged quiet encouragements, building each other up amid the roar of engines and cheering crowds. And their teamwork in the Do Dan Pa Grand Prix? Seamless, a dance of psychokinesis and pyrokinesis that turned the tide against overwhelming odds. Now, scrutinizing it all, Blaze realized how close they'd grown—closer than friends, perhaps. A blush crept up her neck, hot and unfamiliar, her heart pounding as she sank into a chair. For the first time in ages, she acknowledged it: feelings for him, real and growing. The question burned brighter now—what would she do with them?

What's she gonna do?
