Chapter 19 by Violetfyre Violetfyre

What's next?

Family Origins

November came round the corner, the weather turned very cold. The mountains around the school became icy gray and the lake like chilled steel. Every morning the ground was covered in frost. The Quidditch season had begun. On Saturday, You would be playing your first match after weeks of training: Gryffindor versus Slytherin. If Gryffindor won, you would move up into second place in the house championship.

Hardly anyone had seen Harry play because Wood had decided that Harry would be your secret weapon and Harrys ability should be kept secret. You on the other hand were seen more than once publicly training, people knew you were the new chaser for Gryffindor and you didn't mind that much, Although you didn't want to let the team down, so you kept some stuff you had learnt a secret.

Wood was making you do a lot of last-minute Quidditch practice, With the help of the Patil twin and now Hermione your homework got finished in no time at all. Hermione had become a bit more relaxed about breaking rules since you, Harry and Ron had saved her from the mountain troll. During one of the days leading up to the Quidditch match Harry had lost 5 points from Gryffindor because he had Quidditch Through the Ages book outside of the libary so Snape had confiscated it, later that day You, Harry, Ron and Hermione noticed Snape in the corridor limping. When Snape caught you all looking he showed a look of disdain towards you all.

"Wonder what's wrong with his leg?" Harry quietly said, not trying to catch the attention of Snape just a few meters down the Corridor

"Dunno, but I hope it's really hurting him," said Ron bitterly.

The Gryffindor common room was very noisy that evening. You, Harry, Ron, and Hermione sat together next to a window overlooking the dark lake. You were getting a little nervous of the Quidditch match coming up this was the opening match against Slytherin, You really want to do the best you can. Hermione was checking Yours, Harry and Ron's Charms homework for you. She would never let you copy, but by asking her to read it through, you got the right answers anyway. All of a sudden Harry got up Getting up, he told You, Ron and Hermione he was going to ask Snape if he could have it back.

"Better you than us," you all said together, as Harry left. The room started to quiet down as some people went to their rooms, the fire in the fireplace started to die down. The crimson and gold that covered the room gave off such a welcoming and homey feeling you had noticed it from the amount of time you had spent here. It seemed more like a second home it was nicer than your family house.

"So is my homework any good Hermione?" you asked, Hermione looked up at you and straight back down at the work.

"Actually yours was exceptional this time," she informed you "But it wasn't quite as good as mine." she shot a unexpected cheeky jest at you, It caught you and Ron by supprise, You and Ron bust out laughing, Hermione let slip a little giggle after trying to keep a straight face.

After you all calmed down you noticed Hermione seemed curious about something "Say Marvolo, Why weren't you put in Slytherin? I mean everything pointed towards you being placed there." She inquired.

"Honestly, I don't fully know why," You replied trying to think of answers "I suppose I don't follow suit with the whole Blood-purity thing and I don't look down on others." Hermione gave a little smirk. "I believe the Weasley family aren't blood purists as well, and they dont look down on others as well from what I've heard, Am I correct?" Grabbing Rons attention.

"Yeah that correct. We've mainly always been a pure blood family," Ron said pausing. "We're even in the Sacred Twenty-Eight like the Gaunt family, But we don't look down on others, although a few families look down on us."

You felt bad about that because you could take a guess at a few familes that did, "Back to your question Hermione, A lot of things point towards me being placed in Slytherin, Like for instance I'm a decendant of Salazaar Slytherin," Ron and Hermione both wretched away at that fact "I'm a parseltongue, I hold Ambition a key trait of Slytherin if a recall, My family name. It all points towards Slytherin but here I am in Gryffindor." You gently drew the conversation to an end.

"What about your origins? Who are your parents? If you know," Hermione pushed for answers, You expected these questions earlier to be honest it was almost half way through the year.

"Well, I believe I am the last of my family line, for one," You started. "My grandfather Morfin Gaunt had a child out of wedlock who is my father. My grandmother wanted nothing to do with him afterwards. My grandfather was sent to Azkaban for **** of some Muggles, Although some of the Ministy members I've talked to don't fully believe it was him." Hermiones eyebrows moved looking over at Ron who just shrugged.

"I've never really been told much about my grandmother, only that my father was raised under her name, I've never been told his name either." You kept your eyes surfing the common room as you said the next part of the story quieter “He eventually married Octavia Bulstrode and had me, from what I've been told both of them died during the war."

"So you are related to the Bulstrodes." Ron said cocking his head in interest. You were about to answer when Harry rushed into the common room and over to you.

"Yeah, I am." you said ending the conversation about your origins.

"Did you get it?" Ron asked Harry. "What's the matter?"

In a low whisper, Harry told you what he'd seen, the leg Snape was limping on was bloody and mangled and that he overheard him talking about keeping your eyes on all three heads at once.

"You know what this means?" he finished breathlessly. "He tried to get past that three-headed dog at Halloween! That's where he was going when we saw him -- he's after whatever it's guarding! And I'd bet my broomstick he let that troll in, to make a diversion!"

You saw Hermione's eyes they looked like incredibly wide. "No -- he wouldn't, she said. "I know he's not very nice, but he wouldn't try and steal something Dumbledore was keeping safe."

"Honestly, Hermione, you think all teachers are saints or something," snapped Ron. "I'm with Harry. I wouldn't put anything past Snape. But what's he after? What's that dog guarding?" You thought about all of the events that had happened a troll getting loose, Quirrell fainting in the mist, Snape crossing the coridor heading for the third floor. The third floor was where the three headed dog was, Everything pointed towards Snape.

"There's something missing, Wouldn't Dumbledore know that Snape is doing something I mean people say Dumbledore is one of the greatest wizards of our time if not the greatest, Surely a great wizard of his stature would notice something with Snape. Snapes been working here almost longer than that we have been alive." You said with reason.

"He has Dumbledores trust, which is why he's acting now." While this statement could be true it still felt off. Snape was incredibly mean towards Harry and Neville with no explanation. You went to sleep thinking all about the Quidditch match and how you were going to perform instead of Snape, scenarios played in your head of the outcome.

The match?
