Chapter 66 by zenxraider zenxraider

Do you heed God's advice and slip away or is this dual encounter inevitable?

Face the music. Just keep your wits about you.

You consider your options carefully. Giving them the slip could put you in the clear but it would also leave Ruby in a questionable position, and you couldn't find it in your heart to abandon the poor girl right now. You could also just bring her with you but that would lead to a ton of questions about your abilities that you didn't want to entertain for the night, nor did you want to wipe her memories a second time without good reason. It's not like you couldn't do any of it, far from it. No, deep down you knew that such uses of your powers would cheapen this entire experience. After all, what good is life without a bit of risk to spice things up? Besides, you were immortal, a master of this Universe just as your Creator was master of His. It felt almost like an obligation to create your own risks. More importantly, if exposure was unavoidable then you'd rather have these men of power as allies instead of enemies. Stealing yourself with resolve, you resume time's flow.

"Ruby, it's okay," you say gently. "I'm fine, see? Not a scratch on me."

"So? It still made me worry and I can see why!" she continues, her hands now lifting your arms to inspect your sides. "Your suit is completely destroyed!"

"Jeez, if you wanted to touch my bare flesh that badly, I would've done this sooner," you quip, bringing her to a standstill.

Once more, your teasing brings a bright, crimson blush to her face and she animatedly jumps back away from you.

"What did I say about saying stupid things, dummy?!" she says mortified as she promptly covers her face with her hands.

"Sorry, it was just too good to pass up!" you respond playfully.

"You certainly seem to be in high spirits despite your skirmish, Mr. Hazelton."

The smooth and cultured voice of Professor Ozpin sobers the atmosphere quite thoroughly and whilst Ruby does her best to compose herself, you take the lead with the most diplomatic (in your eyes) expression you could muster.

"Getting upset about the situation won't bring our attacker back. I try to maintain a habit of a more positive demeanor as often as possible. You know... because negativity attracts Grimm and whatnot."

"But of course. Ms. Rose, Mr. Hazelton, I would like to introduce you to my esteemed friend and colleague; General James Ironwood."

The General was certainly much taller in person. He stood imposing and broad next to the comparatively leaner Ozpin, his crisp Atlesian uniform pressed cleanly against his frame. Simply brushing his mind earlier gave you the impression of a powerful and respected warrior, and now having him stand before you in person confirmed those feelings. He carried himself with poise and discipline as expected from the Commander in Chief of Atlas' armed forces. If not for his past blunders with Glynda Goodwitch, you would've respected the man. At least... mostly.

"Good evening to you. It's an honor to finally meet you both in person. Professor Ozpin has spoken very highly of your endeavors."

"Just doing our part to make the world a better place, Sir," Ruby happily chimes off with a smile and salute.

"I'm glad to hear it. I must apologize. As much as I would like to get to know you better, we do have more urgent concerns at hand."

"Come morning, I would like to speak to you both for a proper report of tonight's events, no matter how large or small of a roll you've played," added Ozpin. "Thank you for your prompt notification, Ms. Rose, and you as well Mr. Hazelton for your initiative and service to the School. Please enjoy the rest of your evening, though I must ask that you find more appropriate attire before returning to the festivities."

"Thank you Professor, I'll take care of it. We'll see you tomorrow," you say with a nod as the two men make their way to the elevator.

As the door seals them away from view, you make a quick reality alteration of the security footage of your skirmish with Cinder to similarly reflect her battle with Ruby in Canon. The last thing you needed right now was an indirect discovery of your perversions as your harem gradually grew. With the two Headmasters out of the way, you return your attentions to your companion Rose Bud to find her face beaming from the praise given by her seniors. Her happiness alone is infectious and pretty soon you're grinning along with her.

"Well, we may have lost the bad guy or... girl in this case? But at least we scared em off before they could hurt anybody," she says proudly.

"We did," you agree. "And maybe next time we'll actually catch them too."

Of course you'd catch Cinder at some point, but certainly not in the way Ruby would predict. Not that you would share this information with her anyway. At least, not yet. It was at this moment that Ruby bows her head while sporting an embarrassed blush, her smile much smaller but no less genuine.

"I uh... I just wanted to say I had a really fun night," she begins, her hands fiddling adorably with the hem of her dress. "You're easy to talk to, you didn't treat me like a kid, and we got to fight a bad guy and... and uh..."

You raise a brow as she stalls mid sentence, her shoulders slightly trembling. Concern bubbling up within you, you make a move to comfort her but she beats you to the punch. In the blink of an eye with a small fluttering cloud of rose petals from her Semblance, she flashes up to you and, leaning up on her tip toes, plants a small kiss on your cheek. The act makes you freeze in place, your eyes wide with awe as the socially timid yet unabashedly battle brazen Huntress-In-Training makes the first move. Such a sweet, innocent, and pure assertion of budding young love brings your own blush creeping upon your face and in this singular moment, everything else seems to disappear. Your Divinity, your old life, your conquests and lovers, your ambitions and regrets, they all fell away into nothingness in the face of this innocent warrior stepping out of her shell to express feelings yet unexplored. Unfortunately the moment doesn't linger for very long and soon, perhaps too soon, she pulls away.

"I uh... I'll see you tomorrow?" she asks shyly.

"Y-yeah..." you manage to stammer out dumbly.

How she managed to diffuse your carefully constructed poise and confidence in one singular act, you had no idea and yet she did precisely that. With a small wave and smile, she turns and dashes off with that blinding speed of hers, sweeping up Crescent Rose along the way and leaving you alone in the CCT. For several moments, your body refuses to move, your feet stubbornly planted to the spot as if caught in a waking dream, yet this was far from a mere dream. You could still feel the soft warmth of her lips upon your skin. Absently, your fingers lift to brush that spot. Your mind races with all of the opportunities and occasions when you could've easily added her to your list of lays but chose not to, how you could've shattered her innocence both figuratively and literally in one fell swoop yet held yourself back. There was something different about her... something that wasn't quite as mysterious like Blake, quite as passionate like Yang, or quite as elegant like Weiss. It was something... deeper, more profound... and in that moment something both beautiful and baffling to behold had ensnared you; you, a God amongst Men, were falling in love, deeply in love, with Ruby Rose.

She got you bad. Really bad. Back to the party or call it a night?
