Chapter 25 by jealco

Continue south, or explore one of the possible relic sites?

Explore the unidentified site

As much as she needed to reach Gaest and find some help with the Treants, she could use some more equipment. While she had a little coin, it wasn't nearly enough to cover everything she would need to get herself properly equipped again, and she didn't want to be too dependent on the Gaest Lounge if she could avoid it.

She presumed the symbols meant what could be found there, and neither a weapon nor a shield really interested her. While her spear wasn't precisely what she preferred, it was enchanted somehow, and it was passable. Shields just weren't her style. Therefore, she figured she would take a chance at the last site, and see what happened to be there.

Orienting herself off the map, she set out towards the site. It was the farthest out of the locations, easily a day's hike through the fetid swamp, and she didn't want to dally too much longer in this swamp.

The walk went much like the last several days' worth had, uneventful aside from the endless chirping of the insects. For a swamp that was teeming with life, this one seemed rather dead by daylight, not that she was complaining. It meant her main concern was where her feet landed and the damned heat, not what was trying to kill her.

Late in the evening, she drew close to the site marked on the map, and settled into a crouch to observe its' entrance. From what she could tell, a creature that vaguely resembled a lizardman stood guard at the door. It seemed...mutated, however. Even with the fading light, she could see the spines growing from its' joints, and the elongated claws on its' hands. It didn't appear to carry any weapons.

She ran through what she knew of lizardmen. They were an odd society, one which favored wet places like this swamp. They often raided smaller villages and the like for women, who were typically used as breeders for the tribe. A lot of their hierarchy was based on sexual prowess more than military prowess. That gave her a...unique option for subduing the guard, though it had its' own risks compared to a more straightforward approach. She could try to seduce it away from the door, though she didn't quite trust her knowledge of lizardmen to stand up to the mutations this one had experienced. There was always the more straightforward path of sneaking up to the guard, though the noise might alert those inside.

Seduce the guard away, or kill it stealthily at the door?
