Chapter 3 by AlexBXW AlexBXW

What did she find?

Everything is gone!

Maisie had hands left her towel and it fell around her feet, rubbing her eyes to see if any remaining drunkeness had fooled them but as soon as she opened them again, she saw her walk in closet, usually filled with a great many collection of expensive clothes, being completely stripped bare of anything. Panicked, she checked the drawers to see if at least there was some underwear but she saw nothing but the same emptiness. No underwear, no socks, and no shoes.

It was then that Maisie Williams realized just how naked she was.

After a few moments to kickstart her brain, she returned to her room to search for her cellphone but that was gone as well, same as her purse. Having only moved to her house recently, she had not installed a phoneline so her cellphone was the only way to reach her. That and the internet.

The internet!

Quickly, she looked back to her bed where her laptop case was situated but her heart sank when she grabbed it. It was light... too light. Opening it she confirmed her worst fears; her laptop had vanished as well, and with it, any sort of communication she could have had with people she could trust. With her heart sinking to the ground, she looked outside to see the empty streets, not sure if choosing a place isolated far from a large metropolitan area had been a good or bad idea.

After swallowing heavily, she stepped out of her bed again. Someone must be playing a prank with her. A really bad prank. She tried to remember once again what she had done the night before but once again it was blank. Gritting her teeth, she grabbed her discarded towel - the only thing she had to cover her nude body - and braved outside her room.

It was uncanny just how familiar everything looked. The little things she had brought into the house remained still, as if no one had come before. Her kitchen was as she remembered it; the box of cereal she remembered eating last morning still on the counter. The large sofa was placed in front of her screen. Turning it on she saw nothing but static. In fact, there was only one thing that was out of place: a black wooden box placed neatly at the center of her table.

What is inside the box?
