Chapter 3 by LunaCee LunaCee

Why are you here, anyway?

Escaping a Mundane Existence

You've been feeling at a loss, life going nowhere, no excitement, no spontaneity. In short, you're bored with your everyday life.

Finally fed up with sitting there and taking it, you threw some clothes in a suitcase, stuffed it in the trunk of your car, and drove off, not looking back. You had no idea what you were looking for, but could feel you would know when you found it.

You've been on the road for a few days now. It's getting late. You need to find a place to sleep for the night. Hopefully you won't be relegated to your car...

Again.

A neon glow draws you off the interstate. You chuckle a little at the name:

Come Inn.

The sad thing is, that's actually kind of clever-- no serious company would go with such a silly name.

It only takes a minute or so to navigate the roads and find the entrance to the parking lot. The sun has set by the time you kill the engine, exiting the vehicle. Unloading your bag, you lock the car behind you and make for the front entrance.

It's... quaint. Western-style decor, old-fashioned architecture. The electrical lights and computers at the reception desk seem anachronistic compared to most of the room. You don't even see a sign for an elevator, only a grand staircase.

"Hello," the receptionist greets as you approach. Her smile looks almost painfully bright, almost unreal. "Welcome to Come Inn. Do you have reservations?"

"Oh, no..." You frown slightly.

"That's all right," she assures, false nails tapping on the keyboard. They are ridiculous, done up to look like fish tails. (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/99/a9/79/99a979c56229a0ee335ab12a7628648d.jpg) How does she even do anything with those? "We can get you registered right now. May I get your name?"

"John Doe," you respond, shaking your focus from her nails. She somehow manages to type it in correctly in one go. A few more questions and a great amount of key-clacking later, she turns around to a shelf of hanging keys on the wall behind her, lifting one before turning back to face you.

"Here you are, miss Doe. You are in room 214. Take the stairs two flights, turn left, and it will be the third door on your right.:

"Thanks..." You take the keys and begin the slow trek up to the room.

I don't see how a place like this isn't packed with people, do you?
