Eric, Bernie's neighbor.

Eric's ex-girlfriend, whom he was with for a year, called and told him that she had sex with a guy she met in a chat room the week before. This hurt him since she told him that she wanted to get back with him after a little while and just needed some time alone. She then proceeded to tell him that the guy she slept with was ten years older than her and that she wanted to stay single so she can have sex with no strings attached. After he hung up with her, he thought about going to talk to Bernie but thought it was too late to call, so he fell asleep. The next morning he got dressed and walked next door to talk to Bernie. When he got there, Bernie's mom Joyce answered the door.

Joyce saw the look on his face and asked him what was wrong while inviting him in the house. They sat down in the living room, where he proceeded to tell her what happened. "That sucks Eric; you're better off without her, though." She says, trying to comfort him. She told him that she would be right back and went to the kitchen to make him something to drink to calm him down. When she was going to the refrigerator, she saw a picture of Bernie and her boyfriend, Gary. She then remembered hearing about Gary's sister, Lil, and how her boyfriend cheated on her. Joyce thought about how Lil and Eric would be perfect for each other and called Bernie.

"Hello?"

"Bernie, are you over to Gary's?" Joyce asked.

"Yeah, why?"

"Well, I was wondering if you, Gary, and Lil wanted to come over. Eric is here, and I was just thinking of how he and Lil would be nice together."

"Yeah!! That is a good idea. I'll ask Gary and Lil." Bernie replies. After a minute of silence, "ok, we'll be there soon. Love ya, mom."

"I love you too, Bernie," Joyce says, hanging up the phone. She finishes Eric's drink and brings it out to him. "I just got off the phone with Bernie, she and Gary are coming over with Gary's sister.?"

"Oh, ok, do you want me to leave?" Eric asks.

"No, Eric, I want you to meet Gary's sister," Joyce replies. Eric and Joyce sit there, making small talk until they hear the front door open. Bernie walks in and greets her mom and Eric.

"Lil doesn't know that we are trying to hook her up with Eric," Bernie whispers to her mom. Joyce laughs softly and responds that Eric knows nothing about it either.

"Eric, this is Lil, Gary's sister. Lil, this is Eric, he lives next door." Bernie says, introducing the two of them. They smile and shyly say hi to each other. "And of course, Eric, you know Gary." She says while laughing because Eric first met Gary by accidentally walking in on Gary and Bernie making out on the couch. Ever since then, Gary and Eric have gotten along well.

"Well I'll leave you kids alone, I need to go shopping anyway," Joyce says, making her way to the door.

"Gary, can you follow me? I need to talk to you about something." Bernie says, walking towards the kitchen. Gary follows along, leaving Eric and Lil alone in the living room. "My mom and I were just thinking about hooking Lil and Eric up, what do you think?"

Gary thinks about it for a second and replies, "Sure, how are we going to do it, though?"

"Well that's the hard part, Eric is shy. So he might be afraid to ask Lil out." Bernie answers.

"I got an idea," Gary says with an evil smile.
