Chapter 28

You...
Enter the expo
Mr. Li hands you a badge, "Debbie Conners, Exhibitor". You put it around your neck and the plastic cord falls between your breasts letting the tag dangle below them. How long ago did he reserve my spot? How long has he been planning this?
People are queuing up to get into the hall, but when the guard sees the red on your exhibitor's badges he waves you through. The room is huge, and you know it's only one of three that the trade show encompasses.
You follow Li back to the northwest pavilion where all the video streaming technology seems to be collected. You quickly see the Li-tech booth. It's a modest affair about ten feet wide. The back is a black fabric-covered wall about 8 feet tall with a flat-screen television hanging on one side and a big white Li-tech logo on the other. The front is a small black counter at about waist level, covered with brochures. In the middle of the counter is a plastic fishbowl with a sign that reads "Leave your card to learn more". The bowl is currently empty.
As you approach the booth you see that there's a small area between the fabric covered back wall and the wall of the room. Ryan has stashed the shipping materials here and set up a small work area. Ryan glances up from his laptop and quickly goes back to what he's doing.
Almost directly across from you is the red, white, and blue Shawdyne booth. They're marketing the LookingGlass, probably the closest competitor to the Li-TV in cost and functionality. You see a sign on the booth that says, "Assembled in the U.S.A," but you're pretty sure that's stretching the truth. They may box them here, but all the components are made in Asia, like most of the products at this show.
You see a rather fat, middle-aged white guy in a Shawdyne t-shirt in front of the booth talking to a big-breasted, red-headed young woman. She's clearly their booth babe, dressed in an American flag bikini top with the Shawdyne logo, and a pair of cutoff shorts. He seems to be giving her instructions.
Hanging in the very center of the room from the convention hall ceiling is a massive video screen. It actually looks to be four different screens pointed out in all directions so that they're visible from all points in the room. It's playing short video clips taken from the expo floor. They seem to mostly cover the major brands on display here. The cameraman seems to favor pretty women in skimpy clothing, and you're somewhat relieved to see that, as embarrassing as your outfit is, it's hardly out of place here.
Mr. Li clears his throat. "I'm going to go meet with some of our suppliers. Debbie, you'll work the booth, just like you've prepared to do. Ryan, give her any support she needs. I will be back for Mr. Borgnas' demo at 2pm." He takes one last looks at the booth and you behind the counter, nods and then turns and walks away.
You bring up the Li-TV in menu mode on the booth flat-screen, and then look out into the crowd. You can stay behind the counter which would offer you a little modesty, or you can go out into the crowd and try to generate some interest.
