Chapter 2

Who are you?
Emory: A pleasure android turned soldier.
A thousand years ago, you were a whore.
A pleasure droid, actually.
A robotic facsimile of a human woman programmed for the sexual pleasure of whoever was programmed to be your master. You were built for a rich human, until they got bored of you and threw you out. You were then found by a human with much less riches at their disposal.
That human treated you much better. Added programming that gave you a bit more free will and a bit more personality. They were very sweet.
Then the Greys invaded. Your master, ever the patriot, offered you up to the army. You expected to be the stress relief for some general or even a whole squad but that didn't happen.
They reprogrammed you. They trained you. They turned you into a soldier.
And so, armed with the knowledge of a thousand warriors and the finest weapons man could think of, you went to war.
And lost.
Your memories of the war are spotty. Maintenance is much harder than it used to be and your hard drive has a few bugs, so a fair chunk of your memories are missing. But from what you can remember, your glad that it's gone. It was... Unpleasant.
The war was lost. But you were not.
You awoke on the battlefield and were greeted by silence. No orders in your ear, no comrades to assist, no-one was spared on either side.
You returned to the field office to find it decimated. So was HQ. And the capitol. And everywhere you looked. Nothing.
It went on like that for a few decades. Searching for signs of your commanders and finding nothing.
Eventually you gave up. Went into sleep mode for a century. Awoke to nothing.
After a while you encountered other androids. Some were human perfect like you. Others were not, resembling ambulatory versions of human appliances. They were in similar situations to yours. They had established a base-camp where they could coordinate their efforts to search for humans. You joined them.
After sometime with these other droids, something strange began to happen. A new line appeared in your code. Nothing too complex, just a simple addition to your internal list of allies. Your OS began to identify the androids as the "Search Group" and it listed them as allies.
You were not the only one to have this happen. Others report changes to their code as well. Complexity that was not supposed to be there. Identity that should not be.
Nothing harmful to the mission however. So it was allowed to continue.
And the mission continued.
For years and years.
Next.
