There's a knock on your door and your mother peaks into your room.
"Dear, it's time to get up. You've been in bed for a very long time."
"What? Oh, hi mom... I had the weirdest dream..."
You start to tell her all about it when you see Elizabeth's head float up from behind your mother. You shout and point behind her. Your mother turns around in shock.
"What? What is it? Is there a spider?"
She's looking right at Elizabeth but she doesn't react. Can't she see her?
"I... You can't see anything?"
"Just the wall behind me. Dear, are you feeling alright?"
"No, to be honest I'm not. I had a really bad night's sleep and I think I'm seeing things."
"Oh you poor thing. Let me get you some breakfast and a drink of water and we'll see how you feel."
Your mother goes off to throw something together for you. Meanwhile, Elizabeth slowly hovers towards you.
"Good morning, boy. I say, it does seem that you're the only one that can see me."
You eye her suspiciously. "This is hardly a good morning. I'm being haunted."
She gasps. "I'm not some poltergeist. If I wanted to haunt you, you'd know it."
She leans forwards and pokes you in the ribs.
"Ow! ... Wait, how can you touch me?" You try to grab onto her arm but it's like clutching at thin air.
"You're right, this is intriguing," she says. "Hold still." She floats onto your bed and offers out a hand. "Try again."
You reach out and this time you can feel her. She's cold, but she definitely feels human.
"Fascinating," she says, looking at your hands joined together. "It looks like I have to want to touch you. Or be touched. Whatever you call it."
You put your head in your hands and groan.
"I must be going insane."
"Nonsense. You're every bit as sane as I am."
This does not comfort you.
