Elevator

Roxy screwed up her brow, trying to figure out which "fact" her cousin Mark had made up.

Gary and Bernie looked at each other, considering.

Lil watched Mark's face. She held him eye to eye and said. "Ahem." She pronounced the next three words with a breath in between each. "Teacher," "Park," "Elevator." Mark held her gaze. Eventually she giggled and looked away. "I don't know," she said.

"I actually know this one," Samuel said. "The first two are true. The last is a lie because he made it with a guy in a broken elevator."

Mark laughed out loud and shook his head. "Man, Samuel, you never give up," he said.

"I know I'm safe giving you a hard time because you're straighter than a #2 pencil, Mark," Samuel said. "The sisters know they can count on you. Unlike me."

Peggy gave her boyfriend a side-eye and tilted her blonde-framed pink face at a skeptical angle.

"Good thing you make my girl Peggy happy, Sam," Roxy said. "Otherwise you might not get in my door."

"I aim to please, Roxy, as I always say. I aim to please," Samuel said. "As you well know. I already got in your door. Balls deep."

"Dick," Roxy said, grinning.

"I have a close resemblance to that remark," Samuel said.

Roxy clapped her hands. "All right, folks, what do we say. Which one's the lie?" She looked at Mark again, frowning, wondering.

It came down to Peggy and Roxy not believing the teacher story, and Lil, Gary, Bernie, and Samuel not believing the elevator story.

"So everyone agrees I went down on a girl in a park?" Mark said, smiling.

"I know what girl," Roxy said. "You shoulda tried harder to hold onto her."

Mark opened his mouth, then thought better of arguing with Roxy and shook his head, laughing. He shrugged.

"All right," Mark said, "Anyone want to change their guess?" He looked round the room. Lil giggled as his gaze met hers.

Nobody did.

"I made up the elevator," Mark said.

"You popped your cherry with Señora Fuentes? Fuck me sideways!" Roxy said. "I was sure she was a dyke."

"Tomboy," Mark said. "Used to be a welder in construction. Liked dick but couldn't take the dudes she worked with."

"Damn, I shoulda known," Roxy said. "I would have heard about the elevator thing somehow."

Roxy held the box for Mark and let him pull the next name.
