Driving with Grace

The next day, you find yourself waiting with Adela outside her apartment. She's wearing a red polka dress that hides the swimwear you purchased yesterday and holds a picnic basket that contains lunch. Whilst the two of you wait, you both exchange small talk until Adela's friend pulls up in a green sedan. The African-American girl looks to you both and says "Taxi's here."

Adela rushes towards the car. "Hey Grace."

"How are you?"

"Great." Adela says as you arrive next to Adela, who turns her head to you. "So this is Oscar."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Grace."

"Same."

"So you're all ready?"

"Yep."

The two of you sit in the back. As Grace starts the engine, Adela says "So this is the new car?"

"Yep."

"It's nice."

"Oh it's been so good being able to drive whenever I want."

"Guess I better hurry up and get one then."

Grace glances in the mirror to you. "I think that's a clue."

With a puzzled look on your face, you say "What?"

"You don't know?"

"Know what?"

"Adela's birthday's coming up."

You glance to Adela. "Really?"

"Well in a month."

"Oh. Phew."

Both girls share a chuckle before Grace says "Guess you got some time, huh?"

"Yeah well, not enough to save up for a car."

"You don't need to do that." Adela says.

"But I do need to get you something."

"Sure do."

"At least you got a month." Grace says.

"I can't claim this photo session?"

Grace smiles. "Nope. I already beat you to it. Sorry."

"You'll think of something, I'm sure." Adela says.

"No pressure."

The three of you continue chatting all the way to the national park. Once Grace parks, she grabs her camera bag from the front seat and turns to the two of you.

"Ready?" She says.

"Absolutely."
