Chapter 7
What's next?
Drinks with Jess
With drinks and playful flirting in full flow, the pair of us lost all track of time. We'd at first talked about our lives as they were now. Jess had been seeing someone until roughly about the same time she rekindled contact with me. Convenient. She'd asked about Laura and had expertly wormed out information about my relationship. She'd been politely critical and critiqued Laura's handling of our sex life. At first at least. After a short time for the **** to work its way into her system, Jess was on full, still polite, outrage at Laura's behaviour. The conversation had been dancing around the topic of sex for a while now, something that Jess an I used to talk about when we were together. It was then I saw a small opening to push Jess on something I'd been wondering.
"You know, Jess," I said bringing her back yet another rum and coke and casting a 'go fuck yourself' look at the guys on the next table eyeing her, "you're pretty down on Laura's teasing me about sex and not delivering but you sometimes did the same when we were together." Jess looked genuinely shocked and annoyed by this statement.
"I think we had a pretty good physical side myself, Steve. I never thought that was a problem." She sipped her drink through the short black straw and made a meal of looking offended.
"No no, don't get me wrong. I never had any complaints and I agree we were always good together. But sometimes-"
"Only good?" she said sharply, flicking her head back to face me. I knew that telltale crinkle at the corner of her mouth. She was playing me. "Well....you know, seventy percent or so..." I said nonchalantly. Jess couldn't hold her smile back any longer and slapped out at me over the table.
"Seventy fucking percent" she repeated in mock indignation. I chuckled and sipped my drink.
"A seventy percent mark with you is lightyears ahead of a hundred percent with anyone else." I said. My mind caught up with me and thought that through, realising that it didn't really make any sense as statements go. This didn't seem to register with Jess however, who had blushed furiously and was clearly trying not to show it. Thank you rum.
It didn't take her long to regain her composure and though still pink cheeked she said a little more seriously,
"So I teased you in the past? I'm a little tipsy but I honestly don't remember this. Care to back this up with some facts?"
"I was going to say that sometimes you teased about things and never followed through." Jess frowned and sipped her drink.
"Like?"
"Haha, never mind" I teased. "We're not going down this road. It never ends well, and I'm enjoying my evening with you. Let's not spoil it."
"No, come on! Who's being the tease now? You can't just say that and then back out. What did I tease you about?"
