Do the laundry himself

"Xavier, if your mother has been complaining about having too much laundry to do, just start helping out with it."

He looked like he really hadn't thought of that.

"Do you have a problem with doing the laundry?" she asked.

"Oh, no." he said, "That should work."

"Great! Now, how have you been feeling about cooking?"

"Oh, it's lots of fun, actually! I love trying out new recipes, even if sometimes they don't turn out quite right, and the cookbook you got for me is really good."

"Do you think you'd mind if, when you got a girlfriend, she made you cook every day?"

He laughed, "I think I'd mind more if she did the cooking! Also, I noticed that the book said beginner on it. Are there more complicated recipes in the other ones?"

"Yeah, but I don't know if you're ready yet, they're much more difficult."

"I guess they might be too hard still... when will I be ready, do you think?"

She thought about it. She didn't want to put the bar too high, or he might get discouraged, but giving it to him too early could be just as bad.
