Chapter 3
by 13ruskell
But that's White America how did Black America respond?
Divisive
The reaction could largely be characterized as falling within two camps. The larger one was of welcoming optimism, African Americans were no long a minority in the nation which meant that they could start affecting change as such this side welcomed the ebonization event with welcome arms.
The other side was of vehement denial, the ebonzied were not black women. Not true black women at least. They had not suffered all their lives for their skin color like actual black women. They did not live in the ghettos like black women. They did not march alongside their men. So they were not black women enough said.
These two camps, perhaps unsurprisingly, largely fell along gender lines with black men being the former camp and the more vocal black women being the latter.
However as time went on these two camps began to switch positions.
Black America being so culturally focused on the black man expected that these new ebonized women would do as black women had done for centuries and put the black man first. Black men were rarely considered as potential partners by ebonized women who either pursued white men exclusively on stuck with their white partners. One tweet from particularly famous black "dating coach" complained about how his ebonized snowbunny left him for a white man.
And thus were the cries of "bed-wench" spread across the cultural zeitgeist. Ebonized women, however, proved resilient to such name calling and thanks to their numbers were able to drown out such voices.
As for African American women, Ebonized women made significant inroads into that community by investing into businesses owned by black women and supporting for black women. They also demonstrated the difficulty of telling a black woman from an ebonized woman with several experiments where a group of black women would have to determine which among them was ebonized, and almost always failing to do so.
But what probably smoothed the reception the most, was confirmation that the Ebonized were not coming for their black men. Due to a number of factors there was a shortage of available black men, which meant competition among black women for the few that remained was fierce. The largest fear for these women was that the ebonized would come and make the competition even fiercer.
There was also an interesting uptick of natural born black women getting into relationships with white men as the ebonized preferences led to black women getting curious. Which led to a rise in acceptance in such relationships, which naturally led to a further increase in those relationships. This time when the cries of "bed wench" came they were almost silent in the face of all the support.
Though whether for or against and whatever their reason for or against it quickly became clear that the ebonized were here to stay and that America had changed.
These are stories of the people from that changed America as it changed and after.
Who's story is being told?
The Ebonization Effect
