Chapter 9 by bsnick bsnick

What should she do first?

Disable the cameras

Torn with indecision Rachel ran to the backroom and the office her manager used. She nearly wept with relief when she found the door wide open. Step one would be to find a switch to turn off the cameras, step two would have to be getting her hands free. After that she'd wing it.

The tiny office was a ramshackle affair, the furniture looking like it came from a rummage sale. The only thing truly modern about it was the computer and camera system. Her boss liked his gadgets. Unlike the monitors in tv shows her boss, Mr. Samuels, had gone all out. These weren't black and white and grainy, these were in high definition color and zoomed in on any movement automatically. Damn him!

Desperately she looked around for controls or better yet a switch that she could flick. When her eyes lit upon just such a switch, attached to a bank of camera controls she nearly wept with relief, nudging it to the off position with her shoulder. She didn't notice the webcam perched atop the computer light up like a green eyeball.

Just as the monitors turned off she could have sworn that she spotted movement. But with the cameras off there was no way to tell without going out.

Does she investigate, or wait to see if they go away?
