“Staryu, I choose you!” Misty’s Staryu is sent out onto a floating island again. Looks like she’s starting out the same way as last time, which works out well for you.

You send out Diglett, releasing it on the edge of the pool again. This didn’t work last time, but you have a new plan. Besides, you can see that Misty has another pokeball and you don’t know what’s inside, so you can’t afford to tire Oddish out against a pokemon you’ve already fought.

Wasting no time, you start off the battle. “Diglett, use Sand Attack!” A cloud of sand rushes towards Staryu, and just like last time, it dodges into the air.

“Are you even trying rookie? If you liked the tentacles so much, forfeiting is always an option. Staryu, use Rapid Spin!”

Staryu closes in, but this time Diglett dodges cleanly, leaving Staryu lying flat on its back like a frisbee. Perfect. This is the best possible situation. “Diglett, use Magnitude!”

The ground trembles even more fiercely than when the platform was rising, causing Staryu to slide back and forth as its light flickers rapidly. You’re knocked off balance too, falling on your ass while the crowd provides an unrequested laugh track.

“Staryu, get your head on straight, counterattack with a Water Gun!” Staryu staggers upright and tries to regain its bearings, but you’re not about to let that happen.

“Diglett, Scratch now!” Disoriented as it is, Staryu can’t launch its attack before Diglett’s lands, and it falls back to the ground, its light going out to indicate that it can no longer battle.

The crowd erupts as Misty recalls Staryu with a look of annoyance. “Okay, you came here to fight, I’ll give you that. But this is far from over! Goldeen, go!”

Misty’s Goldeen is sent directly into the water, and you scramble to your feet as you prepare to take the initiative again. “Diglett, use Sand Attack!” Another cloud of sand is propelled over the pool, but Goldeen dodges it by going under, rather than over. It closes the gap between itself and Diglett in no time, sitting right at the edge of the water and just out of Diglett’s reach.

“Goldeen, use Water Gun!” Ugh, this again… At point blank, Diglett can’t dodge and takes the attack directly. Hit with its weakness, Diglett is KO’d prompting a mix of gasps and cheers from the audience.

You silently withdraw Diglett. You’d hoped to get a better feel for what her second pokemon was capable of, but this is still okay. You’re both down to one pokemon, and you have the type advantage. As long as you keep a level head, you can win this.
