What does Ms. Kyoto do?

Destroys Rocketgirl; only Melissa remains

"I have a brilliant idea," Ms Kyoto said menacingly. She soaked a cloth in chloroform and pressed it to Melissa's nose and mouth.

"Mmmmff!" Melissa wriggled, trying to get her face free to breathe. But Ms Kyoto held her head against the cloth until Melissa's eyes rolled back into her head and she was ****. Ms Kyoto held the cloth over her face for another minute to make sure she'd stay out as long as possible.

"Let's see now," Ms Kyoto said as she sat at her computer and began typing furiously. Melissa's head twitched occasionally as the Mind Sifter did its work. "Where do you keep your memories of Rocketgirl? Ah, here we are."

Ms Kyoto scrolled, reading frantically the voluminous information the Mind Sifter fed to her computer. "Victory, victory, victory...well, you've had quite the stellar career as a superheroine, haven't you? Let's see if we can take care of that..."

As Ms Kyoto typed, the Mind Sifter began humming loudly as it targeted Melissa's memories of her exploits as Rocketgirl. One by one, the Mind Sifter rewrote those memories, replacing every one of Rocketgirl's many victories with memories of failure and defeat. Melissa whimpered softly as each memory faded. Just for fun, Ms Kyoto rewrote some of Rocketgirl's memories to make her believe she had been captured, tortured, even ****.

Melissa sighed heavily in her sleep, a couple of tears falling silently from her closed eyes. The once proud superheroine slumped in her chair. As Ms Kyoto watched, she thought she could even see the glow fade from Melissa's skin, her aura of greatness fading into one of sadness and defeat.

Ms Kyoto checked the readouts on her screen. "Rocketgirl. Hmph! Not so super now, are you? Not a single success as a superheroine."

Ms Kyoto thought for a moment. She used the Mind Sifter to make Melissa forget the conversation they'd had minutes earlier. Melissa would remember only that she had gone to visit Ms Kyoto; she wouldn't remember what happened after she arrived. Then Ms Kyoto quickly removed the Mind Sifter from Melissa's head and hid it in a drawer. She grabbed a vial of an experimental mind control **** she'd been developing. Drawing out a triple dose, she injected Melissa's arm, then hid the evidence.

After shutting down her computer, Ms Kyoto leaned over her prey, petting Melissa's head and moving her hair behind her ear. Ms Kyoto leaned down, putting her lips to Melissa's ear.

"Poor Melissa. Gifted with the power of super speed, you've put far too much pressure on yourself to serve the world as a superheroine. But you're just no good at it. Time and time again, Rocketgirl has been defeated, humiliated, violated. The criminals always get away when Rocketgirl tries to save the day. Rocketgirl puts innocent people in danger. The police would have a much easier job if only Rocketgirl would hang up her uniform once and for all. Is that why you've come to see Ms Kyoto today? To ask her help ridding you of Rocketgirl once and for all?"

Ms Kyoto kissed Melissa's ear, then walked out of the office. It was 5:30; the hallway was empty. Everyone had gone home for the weekend. Ms Kyoto waited patiently until she heard signs of Melissa stirring in her office.

Then Ms Kyoto opened the door. "Oh! Melissa. What brings you here? I thought everyone had gone home."

Melissa looked sheepish. "I'm sorry, Ms Kyoto. I didn't mean to cut into your weekend. I just...I didn't know who else to turn to." She covered her face in her hands, sobbing.

"Oh, there, there," Ms Kyoto said, rubbing Melissa's back reassuringly. "Have a seat and tell me what's wrong."

Melissa sat in the chair she'd been in when the Mind Sifter fucked her up, though she didn't know it. "Well, I...I don't know how to start."

Ms Kyoto tried to help. "You can tell me anything, Melissa. I am very good with secrets, and I take my students' well-being very seriously."

Melissa sniffled, tried to smile, failed. "Thanks. That means a lot. I just...I don't know. I think maybe coming here was a mistake."

Ms Kyoto would not give up, not when she was so close. "Now listen here, Melissa. I'm trying to be understanding here, but you can't just barge into my office after hours and then be all wishy-washy about why you even came here!"

Melissa wailed. "You're right. I'm sorry. I don't know what's wrong with me. I just can't do anything right. I'm failing your class and I'm failing as a superhe-...I mean...um." Her eyes darted about, alarmed she'd made this slip. Then she lost it again.

"WAAAAHHH! Snif, snif. I may as well tell you now. I'm Rocketgirl."

"Rocketgirl?" Ms Kyoto feigned confusion and surprise. "I don't know what that means."

Melissa blubbered again. "Of course you don't. It figures. I'm Rocketgirl. I'm a superheroine. Or, well, I try to be. But I'm terrible at it! I keep getting hurt, keep getting in the way. I think I'm hurting more than I'm helping. I just don't know how to quit, but I...I have to stop because I'm hurting people!"

Ms Kyoto laughed. "Oh, Rocketgirl! I remember now. You're that silly little girl who dresses up in a silver unitard and runs around when there are bank robberies and that sort of thing. Right?"

Melissa nodded, unable to speak through her tears.

"Well, Melissa, look. It's nothing to be ashamed of. You're just trying to help, right? You're doing your best. Your best just isn't very good. But look, if you're serious about wanting to quit, I've been working on something that may be able to help."

Ms Kyoto reached into her desk and pulled out the Mind Sifter.

Does Melissa agree to be subjected to the Mind Sifter? What does Ms Kyoto do with it?
