Chapter 7 by DreamingSpace DreamingSpace

How do you make use of this power over her mind?

Deflect her gently, and go to your room to think

Everything about Lisa is soft and lovely. She smells good, faintly of peaches. Her hands are pleasantly tender, and she pulls your head against her chest in a way that's still barely within the bounds of platonic hugging, but is more intimate than she's ever been. Her body is a collection of pale, ripe, curves, carefully hidden behind modest clothing. You think her boyfriend, really more committed than a fiancé would be for most of your friends, must not fully appreciate how lucky he is. If he did, he never would have agreed to be apart from her.

You're here, and he isn't. And you can feel that the magic you've bound her mind with would let you do things to her that she's never even done with him.

But it's wrong. You like Lisa, you care about her, but you aren't in love with her. You aren't the one for her. She's never been anything but good to you, if a little distant. And she was only ever distant because she didn't trust you, because of what she expects from men. And honestly you've just proven her right - if you'd do something like this to a woman, you're at least something of a monster. Does morality flow from the gods, such that if the Mistress of Ravens gives you permission to take whatever you want from others, it's no longer wrong for you to do so? Or are good and evil determined according to the nature of one's actions, regardless of divine pronouncements? Would you always have taken Lisa's freedom to choose away from her if you had the ability to get away with it, or has the investiture of the Queen of Winter chilled your heart?

In any event, you compose yourself and squeeze her hand. "Thanks for listening, Lisa. You really helped a lot. I need to go think."

What's next?
