Deceptive security
The bookstore was a wreck. Books lay scattered wildly across the floor, pages torn out, covers shredded as if a storm had raged through. Shelves had been toppled, wood splintered under the weight, dust swirling in the air and mixing with the acrid smell of old paper, fresh blood, and the heavy, musky scent of sex. Torn clothing was strewn everywhere—shirts, skirts, underwear—some still damp and sticky, others soaked in blood. The room reeked of decay, panic, and something dark slowly spreading.
The Sailor Senshi breathed heavily from their escape. Their uniforms were dirty, torn, blood-splattered. Sailor Moon sat on the floor, back against a toppled shelf, her gaze empty and staring into nothingness. She held Chibiusa tightly in her arms, rocking her gently as if she were a small child again. Chibiusa—now 18 years old—cried softly, her face buried in Usagi’s shoulder. Despite her age, she instinctively sought her mother’s protection, her fingers clutching Usagi’s uniform, her voice trembling with every word.
“Mama… what about Ami?” she whispered again and again, her voice breaking. “She… she screamed… we have to save her… she’s family… please… we can’t just leave her behind… Mama, say something…”
Usagi didn’t answer right away. Her eyes were glassy, tears running silently down her cheeks. She stroked Chibiusa’s back mechanically, her lips trembling. Finally, a choked whisper escaped her lips.
“I… I don’t know, Chibiusa… I don’t know how… she was… she was right in front of us… and then…” Her voice failed. “I lost her… I just lost her…”
Chibiusa sobbed louder, pressing her face harder into Usagi’s shoulder. “But we’re the Sailor Senshi! We always save everyone! We… we can’t just give up… Ami would never give up on us… right? Mama… please… tell me we’re going to get her…”
Rei – Sailor Mars – stood at the barricaded window they had reinforced with toppled shelves and books. She peered through a narrow gap between the boards at the street outside, her eyes glowing with concentration. She wanted to warn the others if the vampires followed them or found their hiding place. But outside she saw only isolated vampires—small groups or pairs—fucking each other, grinding, biting, moaning. None of them seemed interested in the building, none looked over. The bulk of the horde had apparently already moved on, deeper into the city, searching for more victims, more blood, more lust.
Rei half-turned, her voice rough but firm. “The street is… quiet. Too quiet. Most of them have moved on. But there are still enough out there. If they catch our scent…” She broke off, clenching her fists. “We can’t stay here forever. But we can’t just charge back out either. Not like this.”
Makoto – Sailor Jupiter – reinforced the barricades at the doors and windows. She pushed more shelves in front of the entrances, stacked heavy crates in front, checked every crack with grim determination. When they first arrived at the bookstore, she had checked the back rooms to make sure they were safe. She hadn’t told the others—but in one of the back rooms lay the body of a police officer. He had apparently chosen to shoot himself with his service weapon rather than become a vampire. The gun lay beside him, a bullet hole in his temple, blood and brain matter on the wall. Makoto had covered the dead man with an old blanket, closed his eyes, and whispered quietly: “Rest in peace.” She didn’t want to burden the others even more. Not now.
Makoto returned to the main room, wiping dust from her hands. “The back rooms are empty. No vampires. But… there’s a cop back there. Shot himself. I covered him up. We should… we shouldn’t just leave him like that, but… we don’t have time for funerals.”
Minako Aino – Sailor Venus – sat a little apart on an overturned chair, knees drawn up, arms wrapped around herself. Her uniform was torn in several places—the skirt ripped so high on one side that her thighs were completely exposed, the skin there still reddened from the vampire’s touch. She remembered—none of them had forgotten—Ami’s words: Don’t let them bite you. And for heaven’s sake… don’t let them take you. And yet it had happened during the attack—when the vampire grabbed her from behind, rubbed his hard cock against her, his precum dripping onto her pussy before Jupiter tore him away. Minako still felt it—a prickling, a warmth slowly spreading through her lower belly. She blamed it on the escape, the exertion, the shock. But deep down she knew it was more. A spark. A whisper. A hunger stirring.
Minako lifted her gaze, her voice quiet but determined. “I… I feel something. A prickling. A warmth. But I’m still me. We can do this. We have to. Ami… she would never give up. And we won’t either.”
Rei turned fully around, her eyes flashing. “Minako’s right. We’re still here. We’re still breathing. We’re still fighting. But we need a plan. The energy out there is blocking our powers. We can’t just charge in.”
Makoto nodded, her voice rough. “And we need to rest. We’re exhausted. If we attack now, we lose even more. We need… a moment to think.”
Usagi finally lifted her head, her voice raw, broken, but with a spark of determination.
“We get her back. Ami belongs to us. She’s family. We don’t give up.” She pulled Chibiusa closer, kissed her forehead. “We’ll find a way. We always find a way.”
Chibiusa sobbed softly, her voice trembling. “But… how? She was… she was right in front of us… and then… she screamed… Mama, I’m scared… but I want her back… I want my sister back…”
Usagi stroked her hair. “I know, Chibiusa. I’m scared too. But we’re together. And together we’re stronger than they are.”
Minako stood up, her voice firmer. “Then let’s think. We need information. We need… a plan. And we need… strength.”
Rei nodded. “I’ll stay at the window. If they come… I’ll see them first.”
Makoto placed a hand on Usagi’s shoulder. “We’ll get her back. I promise.”
The group fell silent for a moment. Only Chibiusa’s quiet crying and the distant moaning of the horde outside could be heard.
Then Usagi spoke softly but resolutely.
“We rest. We gather our strength. And then… then we bring Ami home.”
Outside the moaning swelled—the horde moved on, but they knew: soon it would return. Or it would find them.
The night was still young.
And Neo-Tokyo fell deeper and deeper into darkness.
But the warriors of light were not yet defeated.
Not yet.
