Debate Club

When we arrive I see the door closed so I knock and open it slightly putting my head in. “Hope I’m not late for the club”

"Oh hey there Bever- Oh Nick's here too! That's fantastic! No, you're not late at all!" Miss Wong replies.

The classroom has changed slightly with all the desks being moved to the back except for 5 desks on each side. One side's desks have been taken by Maddison and four other people I don't know and the other side has two empty seats with the rest filled by three people I don't know.

“Great. I don't have a clue on how a debate club works so I didn't want to miss a thing” I say walking in and smiling at Miss Wong and Maddison before scanning the room. After a few seconds, I just head to one of the empty seats.

"Well done guys that were a really interesting debate." Miss Wong concludes as Madison finishes her closing statement. "Now as you know every week we do a star debater and this week the winner is Nick!" Everyone starts clapping except for Madison who felt that she deserved it more. "I hope it isn't just beginner's luck!" Miss Wong adds as the rest of the club pack up and begins to leave.

“Me too. But probably is, Maddison had brought great arguments for the debate. I think I only had it better because I came from a family of physicians and hospital owners. I'm sure that next week she'll crush me” I say being humble and acknowledging Maddison for her great performance.

"No, you did great Nick!" Madison replies. "Yeah, you did really well," Beverly says as she puts her arm around my back and rests her head on my chest. She then smiles at Madison and Madison says to me "I'm gonna go." She says, sensing some animosity from Beverly. "I hope you enjoyed your first time at the debate club but I think Daniel's outside in his car." She says awkwardly.

"See ya!" Beverly replies as Madison walks away.

“Thanks. See you soon” I say with a smile and watch her leave the classroom. “Well, I guess I also should get going. I don't wanna keep you two in school for longer than you need.” I say grabbing my backpack. “See you two tomorrow”

"See you, Nick." Miss Wong replies.

"Bye baby!" Beverly says before blowing a kiss to me.

As I head back to my car I grab my phone and check to see if anyone messaged me and to let Veronica know that I'm done here.

N: Hey! The debate club just finished. Are you still at the gym or want me to wait for you at the coffee shop?

V: Hey! We've just started at the gym if you wanna come!

N: On my way
