What's next?
Day of Reckoning Pt. 5
The air of Olympus hums with an otherworldly energy, still vibrating from Hera’s decree. Aphrodite remains rigid with silent fury, the Fates have long since withdrawn into their enigmatic, unshakable composure, and Liam is still very pointedly not making direct eye contact with Hera.
And then—another presence enters the scene.
A ripple moves through the air, like the very fabric of reality itself shifting to accommodate something greater. The space around them distorts—not violently, not aggressively, but subtly, as though existence itself is simply realigning to make way.
A figure emerges from nothingness.
Tall, impossibly so, yet not in an imposing way. His features are neither sharp nor soft, not old nor young—simply timeless, as though his existence transcends mortal comprehension. His skin is an ever-shifting canvas, colors and patterns flowing seamlessly like an endless cosmic tapestry, one moment deep like the void of space, the next glowing with the warm hues of a setting sun. His eyes, if they could even be called such, do not reflect light—they consume it, absorbing all they see into their unfathomable depths.
Hera inclines her head slightly in acknowledgment. “Theodon.”
The figure dips his head in return, his voice like the whisper of galaxies colliding. “Hera.”
Liam swallows audibly beside you. “Oh, well that’s definitely the scariest guy in the room,” he mutters under his breath.
You resist the urge to elbow him.
Hera turns to you. “Luna.”
The name doesn’t register at first. But when it does, something tugs at your chest—something foreign yet familiar, something right. You blink at her, at the ease with which she said it, as if it had always been yours.
“You have one last choice to make,” she continues. “Theodon is the god of reality itself. If you so wish, he can alter existence to reflect the life you desire.”
Your breath catches.
Liam tenses beside you, his fingers curling slightly against your palm. You know what he’s thinking—what this means. What you’re about to ask for will change everything.
You turn to face him, squeezing his hand. “Liam,” you say softly. “Would you be okay with making it so that the world has always known me as a girl?”
His brows furrow slightly, the gears turning behind his eyes. “So… you mean, like, no one would ever remember you were—?”
“Except us,” you clarify. “Just you and me. We’d remember everything exactly as it happened, but to the rest of the world, I was always… a girl.”
There’s a pause. His thumb brushes absently over the back of your hand.
“…Are you sure?” His voice is quiet now, careful, as if he’s afraid to break whatever fragile moment this is.
You nod, firm but gentle. “I am.”
Liam lets out a slow breath, studying you for a long moment. Then—he smiles. “Then yeah,” he says. “Let’s do it.”
You exhale, relieved, and turn back to Hera and Theodon. “Can it be done?”
Theodon inclines his head. “It can.”
Just as he lifts a hand, preparing to weave reality itself into your new truth, a sudden thought grips you.
You bite your lip, shifting slightly. “And—” You hesitate, feeling the heat of embarrassment creeping up your neck. You don’t know why you feel shy about this, not after everything, but—
You take a small breath. “And if I wanted to change my name?”
Hera blinks, as if caught off guard by the simplicity of the request.
“…You wish for a new name?”
You nod slowly, then, a bit softer: “Mia.”
You don’t even know when you started thinking about it, but something about it feels right. A fresh start, but not one that erases everything—you’ll always remember, but you want this part of you to feel real, not just something **** upon you by a divine game.
Liam smiles immediately. “Mia.” He says it so naturally, like he’s always known. “Yeah, that suits you.”
You feel warmth bloom in your chest.
Hera studies you for a moment longer, then, to your absolute surprise, she steps forward and rests a hand on your cheek.
Her touch is light, gentle, nothing like the overwhelming divinity that radiates from her every movement. It is the touch of a goddess, yes, but more than that—it is the touch of a woman who has spent millennia watching over love, over marriage, over the intricate threads that weave people together.
“You have endured much,” she murmurs, her voice softer than it has been all this time. “More than I would have wished upon you.”
You swallow thickly, unsure how to respond.
Her fingers brush your temple, a silent reassurance. “You are not selfish for wanting peace.”
You feel the knot in your chest loosen—just a little.
Hera’s gaze holds yours, unwavering. “You have chosen your path, Mia.” There’s something final in the way she says it, as if speaking your name now cements it into reality itself. “And I will see to it that it is honored.”
She turns back to Theodon. “Their memories remain as they are, but their habits and instincts adjust. The rest of the world will know nothing different.”
Theodon’s eyes glow faintly, a shimmer of power flickering through the air. “It will be done.”
A pulse spreads outward from him, a shift in the very essence of the space around them, as if reality itself is exhaling, settling into its correct form.
It’s subtle. But it is absolute.
Hera nods once, satisfied. “These changes will take effect the moment you leave Olympus,” she informs you. “To return to your world, simply snap your fingers twice.”
Liam blinks. “That’s it? Just like that?”
Hera glances at him. “Would you prefer a more elaborate departure?”
Liam smirks. “I mean, I was kinda hoping for, like, a sick lightning strike or a dramatic portal or something—”
Hera raises an unimpressed brow.
Liam clears his throat. “—But, uh, you know what? The finger snap works.”
A small, knowing smile flickers at Hera’s lips before she straightens. Then, in a single, effortless motion, she snaps her fingers.
The effect is instant.
Aphrodite, still sulking, vanishes in a flicker of divine energy. The Fates, ever silent and ever watchful, fade into the shadows, their presence dissipating like whispers in the wind. Theodon, unbothered, simply ceases to be, as if reality had merely paused his existence for now.
And then—Hera herself begins to fade.
“You have been granted this time together,” she tells you. “When you are ready—return.”
And then, in a final flicker of golden light—she is gone.
For the first time in what feels like forever, it is just the two of you.
Alone.
The halls of Olympus stretch infinitely before you, endless and divine, bathed in a light that has no source yet illuminates everything with an ethereal glow. The silence that follows Hera’s departure is deafening, the kind of stillness that presses into your skin, into your bones, into your very existence.
Liam is still gripping your hand, but he hasn’t spoken yet. His blue eyes are locked onto yours, wide and searching, as if he’s still trying to wrap his head around the sheer magnitude of what’s just happened.
“You really did it,” he murmurs. “You really—” He exhales, shaking his head. “Mia.”
Your name. The only name that has ever truly felt like yours.
You let out a breath, the weight of everything settling over you like a comforting embrace rather than a burden. “Yeah.” You squeeze his fingers, your own lips curving into a smile. “I did.”
He stares at you for another long moment, as if seeing you for the first time. And maybe, in a way, he is. This is you. The truest version of yourself, the one you fought for, the one you chose.
Liam shakes his head again, but there’s no frustration—just disbelief. “I just… I still can’t believe you actually want this.”
You step closer, placing your free hand against his chest, feeling the steady, familiar beat of his heart beneath your palm. “Liam.” Your voice is soft, but firm. “This is everything I’ve ever wanted.”
His brows draw together slightly, his lips parting, but you don’t give him a chance to interrupt. “This is bliss,” you continue, your fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. “This is wonderful. And you—” Your voice wavers just slightly, overcome with emotion. “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
His breath catches.
“I love you,” you whisper. The words spill from your lips like a prayer, like a truth that has always been written into your very soul. “I love you, Liam.”
For the briefest moment, he is utterly still.
Then, all at once, his arms are around you, pulling you in so tightly that you can feel every inch of him—his warmth, his strength, his love. His forehead presses against yours, and when he speaks, his voice is hoarse, thick with emotion.
“Luna, Mia,” he breathes. “God, I love you too.”
The words shatter something inside you. Or maybe they mend something that was never whole to begin with.
You don’t know who moves first, if it’s you or him, but then—
Your lips meet.
And it is everything.
The moment they press together, the world around you erupts. Olympus itself seems to breathe in response, the very air shifting as if acknowledging the sheer enormity of this moment. A warmth unlike anything you’ve ever felt engulfs you, not just from Liam’s touch, but from the very essence of this place, as if the divine itself is bearing witness to your love and approving.
His hands are on you—one cradling the back of your head, the other gripping your waist as if anchoring himself to you, as if afraid that letting go would mean losing you forever. His lips move against yours, urgent, ****, but also slow and intentional, savoring every second. He kisses you like he’s memorizing you, like he’s been waiting for this moment his entire life.
And in a way—he has.
You melt into him, fingers tangling into his hair, pulling him impossibly closer. The taste of him, the feel of him, the warmth of him—it’s intoxicating. Your chest presses against his, your body molded to his as if you were crafted to fit together.
A breeze swirls around you, impossibly soft, impossibly warm. The divine halls of Olympus shimmer, as though the realm itself is bending, reacting, celebrating. Light pulses through the space around you, golden and endless, wrapping around your intertwined figures like ribbons of fate itself.
Liam tilts his head, deepening the kiss, and you swear you feel something shift inside you, something profound, something eternal. His hands roam, tracing the shape of you as if committing you to memory, as if he’s still in awe that you are real.
And you are.
You are Mia.
And you are his.
Time ceases to exist in that moment. There is no past, no trials, no curse. No uncertainty, no doubt.
There is only this—_only you and only him_.
When you finally pull apart, gasping, your foreheads remain pressed together, your breaths mingling. His eyes are still shut, like he’s savoring every last second of it, like he’s afraid to open them and find that this was all a dream.
But it’s not.
You smile, brushing your fingers over his cheek, your heart thundering against your ribs. “That was…” You shake your head, laughing breathlessly. “I don’t even have words.”
Liam chuckles softly, his own smile laced with wonder. “I think we just got blessed by the gods.”
You laugh, pressing another quick, playful kiss to his lips. “Guess that makes us pretty damn special.”
His arms tighten around you, his voice lowering. “You were always special to me.”
And just like that, your heart swells all over again.
You know that the moment you snap your fingers twice, you’ll return home. To a new reality, to a new life—one where you were always Mia, always Liam’s, where everything fits.
But for now, you stay here, in his arms, in this perfect, divine moment.
Because this?
This is the grand finale.
And it is perfect.
Psst. Hey, you! Yeah, you over there, reading this! It's not over yet, there's still an epilogue!
