Chapter 8 by Deschain5585 Deschain5585

What's next?

Day One.

Dagaz could almost feel dawn fast approaching, his newly heightened senses warning him to seek shelter before it arrived.

He could feel the sun creeping up below the horizon, the almost unperceivable increase in temperature as the sun rose closer to the dawn. His mind struggled to comprehend what his body was telling him, to explain what the coming morning felt like.

To his nose, Ozone. Ozone after a thunderstorm, when the air's still charged with the smell of danger.

To his skin, it tickled. As the air began to warm, it felt like someone blowing across the hairs on your arm, that faint tingle that's half touch, half caress.

To his eyes, it burned like a fucking bitch.

Dagaz made his way to the door that led back into his apartment, and was mid way through letting himself inside when he remembered the small problem he'd left out there. He couldn't just leave that girl up on the roof, bleeding from the neck. Well he could, he could just walk away. Who was she to him. A stranger, he didn't owe her anything. Yet he found himself pausing there regardless. He wasn't a monster, and had no intention of becoming one.

Checking her had the key in his pocket (although he figured that now he would probably have been able to just **** the lock), Dagaz let the the door swing shut as he slowly turned around and made his way back across the rooftop.

She was still laying there, sprawled on the floor where he'd left her, too weak from blood loss to escape even if she'd had been able to open the door from this side without a key.

Upon closer inspection, she didn't appear as young as Dagaz had assumed earlier. Mid 20s, maybe 22/23. No older than that for sure, but her height was what had caused him to mistake her for younger earlier. She was petite, barely 5'2 if that, and with her long blonde hair still partially draped over her face, she looked angelic. The girl was slender, for the most part, and breathing steadily now.

Dagaz made his way towards her. Kneeling by her side, he user a finger to gently brush her hair back from her face. She was beautiful, in a classical sort of way, even if she was covered in dirt from laying on the floor. Reaching two fingers out, he touched her neck to check her pulse. He could feel it ticking away beneath his fingertips, and he gently moved his fingers across her throat to the twin puncture wounds he'd left there earlier. Freshly dried blood crusted the two tiny pinpricks, and he licked his lips. Unable to help himself, he brought his mouth down to them, and licked the wounds clean.

As Dagaz drew his head back, his eyes went wide at what he saw. The wounds rapidly shrunk, his saliva apparently causing the skin to knit itself back together as he watched.

Well, that will be useful. he thought to himself. No worrying about anyone bleeding out after I'm done with them at least.

The girl stirred. "Uhm...mm...my."

"Sshh. Try not to move, you've lost a lot of blood." Well, more like donated than lost,' he thought to himself with a smile, but his point still stood. "Can you tell me your name?"

The girls eyelids slowly began to open, revealing eyes such a dark blue they seemed to have captured the very colour of the sky between day and dusk.

"A... Ava. My name's Ava." Her voice grew steadier as she managed to get more words out. 'W. w.. where am I? What happened? I remember being at a party, but everything after that is a big fuzzy haze."

Despite his advice to her to try and stay still, she'd chosen to ignore him and was trying to, almost successfully, sit herself up. She was making a valiant effort, but her arms were shaking with the exertion. Taking pity on her, he gently helped her the rest of the way.

Dagaz lowered himself to the floor and sat next to her, leaning back on the wall. "Nice to meet you Ava. Careful there, you've had quite the night. I'm Dagaz." he said, offering his hand to her. She took it in her own warily. Strange men, even ruggedly handsome like this ones didn't just introduce themselves randomly on rooftops everyday.

"You mind telling me how I got up here Dagaz?" she said, fixing those beautiful blue eyes on him. "Wherever here is."
