Damned Interuptions

They took a moment to catch their breath before John realized the television in the living room had just turned on and a man’s voice called out, “Honey, I’m home!” Doe froze, not knowing what had just come into play.

John was wiping off in the bathroom and pulling on her shirt. To Doe she whispered, “Get in the shower. Go.” Before calling out to the other room.

John sauntered into the other room carrying a towel loosely folded in her hand and glared at the guest. “Hm. Abusing the keypad code. I’ll be sure to add ‘changing lock code’ to my list of things to do today.”

“You are so very welcome, my dear.”

“What do you want?”

“Lunch with you and your guest of course.”

“Why did you not join us for dinner last night, asshole?”

Doe was listening as the shower ran. He could not discern the man’s identity by voice alone. All he knew was that if it were Bo – he better clean up good for John.

As Doe dressed in the room he listened close enough to make his head throb to the two voices echoing from beyond his door. By the tone of John's voice, he was certain the ex husband was not present.

She was talking animatedly to the man about a run and children doing some kind of therapy class. As he listened against the door post, ear to the crack, the man said his name. "Where the fuck is Doe anyways? Did the pussy balk out and climb through the window? I bet he balked."

Doe stood taller. Walked out of his room toward the kitchen and felt at ease immediately upon sighting the tall frame and red Mohawk of Mitch. From behind he could see through the man's earlobes and briefly recalled the other piercings involved on the being. "Bears.... Do not balk!"
