Comfort her

Shit. You hadn't expected Lucy to start crying. You'd been hoping more that she'd be angry with her boyfriend, but not this.

You put your arm round her and gave her a hug. "Hey, hey it's OK. Come on, tell me what happened."

She managed to stop sobbing long enough to take a massive gulp of scotch. And a second. She drained the glass on the third.

"Another?"

She nodded. You filled her glass and rejoined her on the sofa, sitting a little closer to her this time.

"We had this huge fight last night. " she managed to say between sobs. "He was in the shower, and his phone went off. It was some skank he's been seeing on the side."

She told you the rest of the story, sinking another 2 glasses before she got to the end. She was well on her way to being nicely drunk.

You'd seen her drunk at office parties a few times. Being petite, she couldn't handle her booze very well, and she normally ended up drunk quickly. The professional mask she wore soon faded as the booze took effect, and she was a lot more uninhibited when she had a few drinks in her.

She broke down again, and her head soon found its way to your chest as she cried into your t-shirt.

"Why can't he have been a good guy like you?" she said, looking up at you through tear streaked eyes. You could feel the warmth of her breath against your skin.
She traced her finger over your abs. "Wow. You're a lot more ripped than you look under that suit."

"He's an idiot for cheating on you. If you were my girlfriend, I'd never dream of playing around. You deserve so much better than that."

Her fingers were still tracing over your chest, her touch a little firmer than it had been before. "You really mean that? Why? "

"Of course I do. Have you seen yourself, you're stunning. You could have any guy you like. All you have to do is ask."

As she lifted her head up to look at you, her lips ending up brushing against yours.
