Chapter 6 by Ator Ator

Does Toni recover? Who does she thank?

Chris

When Alan came back, Toni was relieved to see it gone. She relaxed again, nuzzling into the soft shirt that she had her face buried in. The boy's aftershave was pleasant and strong, and the material was silky. She could feel his hand still rubbing her back, making her almost want to purr. He really felt strong and protective. She signed again and gave the boy a grateful hug. Looking up at the curly blond, she said, "Thank you."

He smiled at her, his blue eyes seemed deeper than anything. "It's alright. You're safe. Happy to help." She realized he was leaning down towards her, puckering. Oh my God! Is...Is he going to kiss me? she thought. Then the realization struck. She sort of...wanted him to. Leaning her head back a little more, she closed her eyes and waited for him...

To give a gentle peck on the forehead.

She opened her eyes and blinked for a moment, then looked up. He had a knowing smile on his face. She blushed in response and broke away from him. Looking at the rest of the group, Toni cleared her throat to get everyone's attention.

"I'm sorry you all had to see that. I hate screaming like a 6 year old, much less doing it in public. But I have a real phobia of snakes. It's been there since I was a kid. I'll be fine. At least...if there isn't any more snakes that shows up."

Everyone chuckled at the joke. The Alan guy spoke up again. "I can't promise, but you won't likely see another. They generally stay out of the valley. Too cold for them. "

In her mind, Toni frowned. Is this guy laughing at me? He did in the cabin. Who does he think he is? she thought, the inner cat baring its claws for a moment. She decided she'll have to keep an eye on him, if he was so amused at her hysteria. He might be a problem.

"Well, at least it's over for now." she said, coolly.

Alan clapped his hands together. "Ok, is everyone ready? Get in your work clothes and meet at the fork in 5 minutes. "

Everyone split up. She watched Chris walk into the woods. But before he left, he turned and gave her a wink. She smiled shyly back.

Does the work go more smoothly than the move in?
