Chapter 2 by D12 D12

What's next?

Chris, a trader in Azeroth

Christopher Longstride is a trader in the human kingdoms in the world of Azeroth, he inherited his craft after his father. Chris may not be as bright and talented as his old man who built him up a little fortune that allowed him to travel outside of Stormwind’s borders but he still is capable enough to not squander his father’s work or get himself killed while travelling. His weapon of choice, a rifle, never left his back out in the field and often helped him to scare away wildlife.

Right now, he was sitting in a quarter aboard a buccaneer ship that was smuggling him into Kul Tiras, he chose the particular way of getting into the nation because of the recent rumours he overheard back while visiting Stormwind, apparently Jaina Proudmoore along with an Alliance emissary was going to Kul Tiras on a diplomatic mission. Chris knew the unfortunate history between Jaina Proudmoore and her home country, Chris expected there to be a ruckus and distrust towards people coming directly from Stormwind. He doubted that anyone sneaking in will get a second glance unless caught.

While waiting to get to the dock in a few hours Chris was fiddling with a small ornate box that he got off of another trader on the ship. The trader sold it to Chris for barely 50 silver as the box sounded to be empty while shaken and Chris just wanted to fiddle with the lock to kill time during the sail. Using a bobby pin and a small lock pick he pushed and turned into the lock of the box and was getting closer and closer with every move.

‘Come on, you bloody junkbox..” He grumbled under his nose as he felt another part of the small lock click and give away. “If you break, I swear to light…” Another click and one step closer. Finally the lock clicked the final time and Chris managed to turn it. “There we go!”

He carefully opened the box and the lid moved with a click. “Hmmm.” He looked into it to find a scroll. “Well, no wonder it sounded empty, that thing is a snug fit, where's that damn monocle….” Chris fiddled in his pocket and fished out an enchanted monocle looking over the scroll before even touching it. “Hm, seems there is magic to it but it seems harmless, lets see…” Keeping his monocle in, Chris took out the scroll and carefully unrolled it. “Maybe I can understand it.” He started reading.

Politeness can be the greatest treasure.
Please bear this trinket and your polite requests will be met with appreciation.
Blessed are the well mannered.

“Huh, seems magical by the looks of it.” Chris looked around the paper, his monocle showing clear traces of energy, weirdly it was unknown to him what kind of energy it was. He wanted to investigate further but the paper started burning in his hands, quickly turning into ashes without hurting Chris’ hands, instead of ashes in his hands there was a gold chain. He looked it over, it radiated the same energy and he felt compelled to put it on. “Eh, its simple enough, wouldn’t sell for much but I like it.” He shrugged to himself after locking it on his neck.

“I’ll better catch a wink before we get to Boralus.” Chris stretched and laid down on the bed in the cabin, looking at the box for a bit before letting the sleep take him. A few hours later, he was woken up by the bells and seagulls of the Boralus port in the distance. He started packing up his stuff and preparing to depart the ship.

The ship docked at the far end of the port next to a small bazaar. Chris was one of the last passengers to get off the ship. The place was already buzzing with the rumors of the Alliance envoy. He went on to browse the stalls at the bazaar and stopped at a bookstand with maps and tomes, local guides and so on.

“I’ll have the hard framed map scroll, an empty ledger and a guide to local herbs and cooking, please.” Chris spoke to the vendor.

“Sure mate, lemme just get them for you.” The burly man turned around and started picking Chri’s order. Chris himself picked up his money sack and started shifting the coins in it considering how much it would cost. While Chris was being counted, someone on the far side of the bazaar was accosting him and other people looking for something.

“There you go, mate! That will be 3 gold, 50 silver!” The chipper vendor said while dropping Chris’ order on the table, making Chris cringe both at the impact and the price. He clutched his money sack and smirked, thinking he’ll try to barter and maybe just pretend to be Gilnean and use the lingo he saw in the letter. “May I have them for free?” And before Chris managed to follow up the vendor responded.” Yes, sure!” Chris blinked twice and waited for the joke to break but the vendor rushed him.”Come on, get your stuff and don’t block the line!” Well then, he took his purchases and went away from the stall.

Baffled a bit Chris spoke to himself. “No it can’t be…” He shook his head. “...can it?”

Chris would figure it out as he went, but where to now? He could have a look around the city, go out to the less legal markets outside or do something else.

A/N: I am taking Warcraft related requests for characters to include in the story. Those can be the lore characters or your own in game characters. If they are your own characters/player characters, I'd apreciate as much detail about them as possible provided from a screenshot to a personality description.

What will Chris do?
