Check out the noise

You walk to the edge of the road and step across the dry ditch, into the tall grass. You wait, listening, but the night is silent. Slowly, you draw your phone out of your pocket, hold it out in front of you, and turn on the screen. Blue-white light bathes the field, and you catch the milky shine of an eye and a flash of white as something taller and broader than a man ducks behind a sprawling pile of blackberry brambles.

Quietly, you walk into the field, stepping over the creeping vines. As you round the bush and reach the back side of the bramble pile, you find...nothing. There's nothing there. Did you imagine it? You step closer and crouch down, using the light from your phone to examine the ground. No, there was definitely something here. The grass is trampled and you find several deep, 'U' shaped impressions in the earth, almost like...hoof prints? But that doesn't make sense. What you saw was not a horse.

You straighten up and the hair on the back of your neck stands on end as you get the eerie feeling that something is behind you.
