Chapter 2 by The Night The Night

Which clue does the heroine investigate?

Check out the Vial of Acid

Miss Patriot decided to check out the vial she found at the scene of the crime. It had a little bit left in is so she thought it might be helpful for her to get it analyzed. Pulling out her Patriot phone, she dailed one of her contacts: Dr. Clay Mason. Mason was professor at the local university whom Miss Patriot had saved several years prior. Feeling he owed the heroine his life, he was always eager to help her when ever she needed more intelligent help.

After punching in the number, he picked up on the first ring like he always did. "Patriot Girl! How are you!!!" He said a excitedly. Miss Patriot couldn't help but giggle. She knew that Mason had a huge crush on her. Not that she minded. Mason was about five years older than she was and was easy on the eyes. For a scientist, he was in pretty good shape and cute hair. She always wondered what would happen if she had become romantically involved with him but given her life as a superhero, she knew it was best if she didn't.

"Hey Mason, I'm doing pretty good. This isn't a pleasure call though, I need your help again. Are you at the lab?" "No, I'm actually at the gym right now but I can be there in a flash. You wanna meet me there?" "Yes, see you soon." Miss Patriot hung up and smiled. Mason was always ready to help her out regardless of the time of day. The fact that he was coming from the gym was also rather enticing.

It wasn't long before she arrived Campus labartory. It was pretty late at night so it was deserted. The door was still locked so Mason likely hadn't arrived yet. She didn't have to wait though before Mason came running up to her. He was wearing a warmups that unfortunitly covered his body but his hair was glistening slightly with sweat. It was rather cute she thought. "Sorry to keep you waiting Miss Patriot. Hope I didn't hold you up for too long." Miss Patriot waved him off. "Not long at all." He smiled if she wasn't mistaken, she noticed a slight blush to his cheeks and a slight blug in his pants. Who could blame him. She knew how good she looked and she was standing before him in a tiny bikini.

"So how can I help you?" Miss Patriot produced the broken vail she found at the crime scene. "There was a break-in at a jewlery store tonight. The point of entry was a through the fire door. They melted through lock with the contents of this vial. Some kind of acid I'd imagine." Mason took the vial from her and examined it. "I supposed you'd like me to anylze it for you?" Miss Patriot gave him a sweet smile. "It would be a big help if you did." "It would be my pleasure Miss Patriot." He unlocked the door and held it open for her. "After you." Miss Patriot smiled at the gentlemanly gesture. As she walked past him, she couldn't help but do a catwalk, making her cape sway back and forth so Mason would get a peek at her sweet a**.

For the next half hour or so, Mason ran some tests on the contents of the vial while chatting with the superheroine. Mostly about the clues she found at the scene of the crime. "So do you think some one at the school as something to do with it?" Mason asked as he typed away on a computer. "I'm not sure. I'll probably go there tomorrow to see if I can get some information on who the keychain belongs to." "What about the warehouse." "That will probably be my next stop. Assuming this doesn't take much longer." Mason laughed. "I think you'll have time, I'm all done." He said as a a piece of paper came out of the printer. "Excellent. What have you got?" "Well I can tell you one thing, this isn't acid." Miss Patriot tipped her head. "What? THen what is it." "I'm not exactly sure to be honest. THe contents of this vial is an experimental formula that seems to have the poor to turn whatever it touches into a different state of matter. In this case, a liquid." "But the lock on the door was melted. It wasn't water." "The effects are very short term. It probably looked that way because the effects suddenly wore off."

Miss Patriot began pacing. "Why would someone use this instead of simple acid?" "Probably because it's less traceable. Acids usually have some kind of chimical compound that can be traced. From what I can tell, this wouldn't leave any kind of trace." "Do you know where this came from?" Mason smiled "That's what I was searching for on the computer. The vial actually had a serial number. It was made in a laboratory across town. Private sector. Whoever used this either had a lot of money or stole it." Mason handed her the information on the lab where it was made. "Wonderful. That gives me yet another lead." "I have a contact in the lab who might be able to get us in. We'd have to wait until morning however. He doesn't work late like I do." "I don't think I can wait that long. I think I'll just go there on my own and investigate while no one is there." "Are you sure that's a good idea? If you get caught and it turns out to be a dead end, that could be trouble for you." Miss Patriot smiled at him. "You're cute when you care but I need to follow up on this." "Why not go investigate the warehouse? You can then go investigate the school in the morning and then we can check out the lab?" That actually did sound like a good plan. Perhaps she should go check out that warehouse.

What will Miss Patriot do?
