Check on Ligeia

Still panting from the struggle with the creature, you planned to give yourself a moment’s breath. That plan was quickly put on hold however when you heard screaming from the next room. Ligeia you thought, and sprinted towards the door, pan in hand. In the main room, you saw Ligeia wrestling with one of those creatures, her hands outstretched trying to keep it from her face.

“Don’t move,” you shouted to her as you sprinted towards her, pan brandished. Your previous fight had left you confident, daring, and you didn’t waste the feeling. You swung the pan down on the imp attacking her, connecting with its head and sending it to the ground like a bag of bricks. It was dead or it was ****. Either way it was dealt with.

They come in groups,” Ligeia warned, then shook her head after realising she had neglected something.

“Thanks,” she added. Grateful as she was, Ligeia did not stand long in ceremony, and immediately began to pace around the room, looking for a weapon of her own, or so you thought. While she did arrive at a long necked lamp, she didn’t exactly seem as if she was intending to wield it. Instead, she pulled out a small stick of charcoal and began to inscribe symbols along its length.

“What are you doing girl,” you asked in a panic, your eyes drifting away from her to look at the windows. The imps slapped against the windows like an imminent torrential rain. A few thuds at first, then more, and more, and more. There were dozens of the things all swarming all over each other on every window, trying to penetrate the windows like they would soon be trying to penetrate you.

The glass was beginning to show cracks. They would be inside within seconds.

“Got it,” Ligeia cheered, drawing your attention back to her. You could still hear the glass cracking.

“Okay Shaw,” she continued, taking the lamp in her arms finally, “I’m going to need you to trust me for a moment and close your eyes.”

You stood dumbfounded by the preposterous request. The imps were a few thrusts away from getting inside and she wanted you to close your eyes? Ridiculous .

“No way,” you shout back in defiance, but Ligeia simply vocalised a second plea for you to trust her.
