Chapter 5 by Sixth Sixth

So which direction should Alice go?

Carefully sneak north, staying near the water

Without water Alice knew she would die. She could not completely abandon the meager stream.

She would need to be very careful.

Alice snuck forward. The drink she'd managed to share with the red primates had given her some stamina back. She had her stick. It wasn't much.

Sticking too close to the precious little stream would be foolish. Whatever had made that roar and sent the red primates running into cover might well be by the water too. Alice ducked into the thicker jungle and tried to keep the sender embankment which the stream ran through in sight.

The temperature on the planet was incredible. It was dangerous. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, on her breasts and down her back. It wasn't particularly easy to breathe but Alice pushed on. She was a survivor.

The roar came again. Much closer this time. Alice couldn't see a thing, the trees grew too closely together, it was impossible to see more than a few metres ahead. The beast must only be a few more metres away. Could it smell her? Could it hear her? Surely nothing too large would evolve in such a thick jungle? Alice considered the odds.

And then she could see it.

What has Alice found?
