Chapter 19 by MalteseMan2 MalteseMan2

How does she escape?

By Parachute.

"Head to the roof." Lester told you. "Security's tight, as you said, but I bribed some of the hotel staff to leave a little package on the roof." With a click, he was gone.

"Hopefully including some clothes. Or a pistol." Lara remarked, dropping her burner and heading out into the hall naked.

"Just off to get some more ice." She told to the guards in the corridor, dabbing her sweat-slick forehead as she moved past them. "What I do is thirsty work!"

Lara wasn't entirely lying. Her British body wasn't exactly built for the Los Santos heat, and both prostitution and contract **** could be exhausting.

Hoping her excuse, and a brief glimpse of her naked body, would assuage the guards, Lara jogged softly down the hall, then swung herself into an elevator, heading straight for the roof.

"Let's hope that perverted, wheel-chair bound little bastard is as good as his word." Lara said to herself, a little uncertainty creeping into her cold, formal accent.

You search the roof, taking in Lara's naked body as you do, until you find a conspicuous black bag and interact with it.

Lara pulls out a parachute, a bluetooth headset, and some of her clothes.

"Ugh. Chances that little cretin sniffed these?" Lara wonders aloud, as she pulls on a pair of black, lacey panties. "Very good."

She follows up by throwing on some shorts, and a black spandex tank, a smaller one that shows plenty of midriff. Then lacing up her boots, glancing back to the door every so often.

Dressed, Lara shrugs on the parachute, then makes for the edge of the building, clipping the headset to her ear.

"Good. You found it." Lester says, his voice crackling in her ear.

"And I'm delighted you included some clothes, darling." Lara said haughtily.

"You're drawing enough attention, I figured a naked base jump would be a little excessive." Lester quipped. "Get down to ground level, we'll discuss next moves from there.

"Very well. Here... goes... nothing." Lara said, taking a breath before bounding over to the edge of the hotel and leaping off, executing a gymnastic front flip as she did.

You wait a few seconds, diving elegantly between the higher buildings of Los Santos, the hard asphalt rushing ever closer, before hitting the button. Lara opens her parachute, and you're guided down.

The game takes over in cutscene mode as you hit the ground, Lara landing with a little more grace and poise than the protagonists in these games usually do. The camera whips around her, allowing you to take in every feature of her face and body once more.

Just as the Brit is coming out of her landing pose, bullets ricochet into the ground around her.

"Fuck..." Lara curses, rushing away. "Lester, the target's security forces are after me. I need an exit strategy."

"On it. Find a car." the hacker responded.

Staying low, Lara moved from the cover various parked cars provided, until she came to a suitably fast one.

Waiting for a lul in the gunfire, the British woman stood, and shattered the driver side window with her booted foot, leaping nimbly inside, then set off.

“Give me something, Lester!” Lara called out, as the private security forces gave chase. “Anything!” her cool, calm demeanour began to fray with every bullet that impacted with the rear window.

“Check your GPS. I've set up a weapon drop half a klick away.” Lester responded. “It's a defensible area, you should be able to fend them off.”

“Though it would rather tie up a loose end for you if I wasn't, hm?” Lara says grimly, as you guide her boosted ride through Los Santos.

A few minutes later, you arrive. Exiting the car, you make for the waypointed box, just inside a warehouse, crates and counters providing ample cover.

Lester splices in the CEO's security's comms as you move. You can hear them closing in on Lara.

“Alright, what have you got for me...” Lara says eagerly, flipping open the weapons crate.

“This was kind of last minute. To be honest, I was hoping you could eliminate the target without any need for collateral.”

“Oh, Lester...” Lara said patronisingly, drawing a pair of default pistols from the case. “This is San Andreas, there's always collateral damage.”

“Still, these should do splendidly.” the Brit said, as much to herself as her handler, as she heard the suits pulling up, locked and loaded.

As gameplay, and combat resumes in earnest, a tooltip guides you through Lara's special abilities. Unlike the boys, and in a bit of a nod to her video game namesake, she's a dual-wielding specialist.

Lara can equip one weapon in her right, “main” hand, and another in her “off” hand. As her Special stat levels through continued use, her proficiency is upgraded.

For the purposes of immersion, Lara begins at 30/100. Being past the first 20 point segment of the bar means she can dual-wield any combination of pistols. At 40, she can wield a SMG or short shotgun in her main hand. At 60, she can wield an **** rifle or full-length shotgun in her main hand, and a SMG in her off hand. At 80, she can wield a heavy weapon, such as a grenade launcher or RPG in her main hand, and an **** rifle in her off-hand. When the skill is maxed, Lara can wield any two weapons at the same time, resulting in some ludicrous, and ludicruously-damaging combinations for the British agent, such as twin grenade launchers.

Lara can also target a secondary enemy during lock-on, and by holding the dodge roll button, you can perform an acrobatic flip, over cover, cars, over enemies, instead of a simple roll.

You get to work on having Lara mow down the bodyguards. You move towards them, firing away at the black-suited opponents, Lara's doubled arsenal making up for the basic pistol's rather low fire-rate and damage output.

A second SUV, full of goons speeds onto the scene, barrelling straight at you. With a single press of the controls, you have Lara deftly sideflip out of the way. You marvel at the way the sun highlights the voluptuous woman's body as she moves, the realistic way her long braid sways as she tumbles through the air.

You have Lara dive behind a wooden crate as the bodyguards exit, then rapidly mash the trigger, resulting in Lara blind-firing both pistols over the top, ventilating her nearby opponents.

“Oh, for fuck's sake.” Lara spits, in her cut-glass diction, as a third and final vehicle full of enemies comes onto the scene. You hit reload, and Lara slams a new mag into each of her pistols, a fractionally slower process than for single-wielding (though Lara can purchase unique quickload upgrades at Ammu-Nation that somewhat negate this), before guiding her out into the street.

Another deft flip brings Lara onto the roof of the black SUV. You then lock on to the approaching suits, sending round after round into the interior of their car before they can pull up or even dive out.

“Jesus, Smith.” Lester remarks in Lara's earpiece, as you guide her off the SUV and she adopts a less tense position. “Now I see why Merryweather paid you the big bucks. Well, before...”

“Before they left me for dead.” Lara says frankly. “My car, Lester?”

“Having Taliana drop it now.” Crest responds. “Just a ways off.”

A waypoint appears on your mini-map, and you have Lara jog off towards it, leaving the carnage in the warehouse behind.

As you reach Lara's personal car, a cutscene begins. The camera pans over Lara's ride, a blue, perfectly maintained, well-waxed Rapid GT, as Lara looks it over, then climbs in. She turns the ignition, then takes some dark sunglasses placed on the dash and puts them on.

“Personal car service. Almost reminds me of growing up in Surrey...” Lara scoffs.

“I know you work alone, but there a crew of guys who would just love a woman with your skillset.” Lester mentioned.

“Lester, I'd sooner turn myself in to Merryweather than work with another of your pathetic little crews.” Lara says haughtily.

“...Understood. But if another “job” like today comes up?” the hacker asks.

“Then you'll know where to find me. Ciao.” Lara says tersely, before tossing her headset into the street and gunning the engine, racing her convertible into the city streets.

As she picks up a decent speed, gameplay control is returned to you. Hitting the character select wheel, you note you're free to continue playing as Lara, with her associated missions and side content, or return to any of the other three and their lives.

What's next?
