Chapter 27

There was still time to chicken out ...

But I didn't

This is the worst idea ever. I’m fucking freezing, I thought to myself as I walked down Yew Avenue in my new lingerie. Luckily I’d thought to put on a trench coat and a beanie, because otherwise the cold night air would’ve had free access to my entire body rather than just my stocking-covered legs. Plus, I didn’t want to walk around at night in nothing but sexy underwear. (Yes, it was sexy – I’d spent about 20 minutes checking myself out in my mirror before I left, and Liam practically came at the sight.)

24, 26 … 32, 34. The blue door of number 34 – hey, that rhymes! – loomed in front of me. My heart was in my mouth as I walked down the path towards it; I quickly searched my brain to check if I’d taken the pill that morning. Yeah, I’m good.

I knocked, and the door creaked open. In my nervousness I hadn’t noticed that it had been ajar the whole time. Not wanting to spend a minute longer outside than I needed to, I stepped inside and shut the door behind me.

“Hello?” A voice called from the living room. I recognised the voice.

Who was it?
