Breakfast

Waking up to the sound of his watch going off, Carl looked up and around the unfamiliar ceiling towards the sound of the noise, bringing his watch up to his unfocused eyes to find the time read 8 AM, about the time he was expected to wake up in the car. Sitting up and grumbling as he shook the slumber out of him, Carl turned in bed to sit up and put his shoes back on and get up to stand, stretching his arms over his head and getting his coat off the chair to get dressed and step outside to see how Dennis was doing.

“Wonder if this place doubles as a bed and breakfast… Didn’t see anywhere else out here that sold food.”

Moving over to the door and opening it, Carl stepped outside and caught himself just in time as he bumped into someone who had them both spin back and have Carl press his back against the wall with a woman pressed up against him.

“Whoops! Sorry about that.” She smiled. Gently resting her hands over the man’s shoulders as she intentionally pressed against his chest. The woman was beautiful… In a strange alien way. Her face was framed by her long flowing hair that hung down her shoulders and back. Her eyes fluttered innocently, pursing her lips as if begging to be kissed. The only thing that stood out from the beautiful woman was that her hair was a nest of tentacles! Her skin, though creamy smooth was a murky olive brown and translucent, like the skin of an insect. Horns gnarled around where her ears would have been, framing her heart-shaped face where yellow, reptilian eyes narrowed seductively as she smiled a fanged smile and leaned back to give the man more room. “Nothing hurt I hope?”

“Uhm… No.” Carl chuckled to himself, finally getting a chance to step forward and press away from the wall. Giving her a look over, she was wearing a red mini skirt and matching red bikini top, tilting her leg to show off her red sandals to complete the ensemble. Finding himself staring a bit too long at her waist and chest, his eyes found a small money satchel hanging from her hip. “I take it you work here, right?”

Looking down and tilting her hip to see the change pouch, the woman smirked as she played with her fingers. “Oh this? No. I just think its more practical than a purse; got everything hanging by the hip here.” She smirked, patting the row of pouches with her hand.

Smiling at her sense of humour, Carl looked down when she extended her hand out to him as a greeting. “My name’s Silvia, what’s yours stranger?”

“It’s…”

“Carl! You woke up too huh?” Called out Dennis down the hall, spotting the two as he smirked finding his friend chatting with one of the ladies of the place.

“You hungry too?” Asked Silvia, offering her hand for the man to shake, winking back at Dennis as she sturned and faced away from the two as she made her way to the staircase. “Then follow me if you want a bite to eat.”

Heading downstairs, the trio found the music wasn’t as heavy as it was last night. The stage was closed and for the most part the neon lights on the walls were turned off save the basic lighting to illuminate the stage room interior. For the most part the place looked like any other restaurant or truck stop with the stage curtains down and the pole removed at the head of the stage. Looking around Dennis and Carl found there were some people already there, either with the door opened for drivers to come in or had already come down from a rented room above earlier that morning.

Following Silvia down the hall she turned to the bar and smiled over her shoulder. “You two get settled at a table, I’ll fetch you a pair of menus and order up.”

“Okay.” Carl nodded back as she continued to smile his way, making her way behind the bar as she nodded a greeting to Judy who was wiping mugs clean with a dish rag on hand. There was a moment where the masque wearing owner of the establishment stopped and brought a finger to pic something in the masque’s mouth before going back to cleaning glasses.

Looking out to the entrance of the building where the tall and imposing bouncer stood with her arms crossed with a look of boredom, the door opened to a trucker coming in using a newspaper as a make-shift umbrella to keep his head dry. Outside it was still pouring rain and the occasional flash of thunder rolled out into a dull echo.

“Looks like the storm is still raging out there.”

“Shit… “Dennis huffed, folding his arms under his chin as he slumped down onto the table. “We should be in California by now.”

“Or headfirst into a ditch on the rain slick freeway, believe me, this’ll be safer. And hopefully we can get our deposit back with the hotel rental there too.”

“Yeah…”

Seeing Silvia come back with a pair of menus in her hand, the alien looking woman approached their table and bent at the waist offering the two men the plastic sleaved menus. Giving a full view of her perfect breasts that made the two men smile sheepishly, with Carl trying to look away in the hopes of being polite. Something that caught Silvia’s eye as her smile pursed.

“Can I get you two something to drink while you make your minds on breakfast?”

“Water thanks.”

Smiling as she stood back up, Silvia turned and went back to the bar to get their drinks, a seductive sway to her hips as she left the two.

“I think she has her eye on you Carl.” Smirked Dennis as he looked down at the menu.

“Oh, fuck off Dennis, its an act and you know it.” Carol rolled his eyes. “These ladies are just playing a part.”

“If she is, then she’s a PRETTY good actor. They ALL are.” Nodding over to a couple of tables away from them, Carl looked over his shoulder to the other ladies of the place serving those who were either eating or ordering breakfast. The woman that looked like the Alien Queen covered her mouth to stifle a laugh from a joke one of her customers made, while another, the predator woman he met last night and wearing a black dress smiled offering coffee to another at her own table.

Shrugging, he looked back to find Silvia returning with a pair of glasses of water In hand. “There you go, so, what’ll it be?” Silvia purred, flipping a notepad open in her hand with a pen.
