Chapter 33 by skedlee

How do you fight?

Bloodily

You leap down from the building as well, trusting your nanobot-infused limbs to take the brunt of the blow. You land down, hitting the ground with your left fist, left knee and right food in unison. You bound up, looking for some sort of weapon to use. If you had known that this was a combat mission you would have brought something but for now you're woefully ill prepared.

Thankfully, Laurel's disarming of one of the goons has left a submachine gun on the ground near you. You pick it and up begin scanning for enemies. Out of the corner of your eye, you spot one, and fire 3 quick shots at his center of mass. He collapses in a spray of blood, and you hurry towards the entrance of the hotel, attempting to follow Laurel.

But you can't find her right now. She managed to vault up to the second story, and based on the sounds of her cry, she's taking care of herself. You're instantly thankful of your earbuds, as you still have the capability to hear the groans of someone around the corner. You slide around it, firing a potent burst into him as well. He collapses, and you wheel your head around, searching desperately for the stairs. You chance upon a sign indicating where they are across the lobby and you rush over there, but not before taking your recent victims backup magazines.

As you enter the stair well, you sense something wrong. Rather than continue up the stairs, you dive out of the way underneath the staircase. A split second after you move, a hail of gunfire pelts the concrete were you just stood, riddling the floor with hefty metal bullets.

Shit. You're pinned, and have absolutely nowhere to go. You peak your head out, and see a glimpse of a turret posted two floors above you, aiming down and manned by a hulking thug. You're not sure if you can snipe him, because while you're a passable shooter, you are certainly no marksman. You start to chide yourself for focusing too much on melee combat, but you stop, knowing that this isn't the time to do so.

You wait a few moments to think of a plan, when a strange feeling comes over you. You suddenly feel that you want to just bumrush the guy in the turret, taking him by surprise and ending him before he can react. You wonder what's coming over you, and before you can realize what's happening, you're exiting your hiding spot and dashing up the steps.

You outpace the bullets, as it seems the turning radius on the turret is too slow the follow you. The operator curses and he tries to hit you, but you still manage to evade any shots. As you hit the level where the turret is stationed, you realize that the man stopped trying to track you and just aimed at the top of the stairs. Where you're currently at.

Not wanting to waste any motion, you run to the wall and leap on it. You continue you run as the thug looks in shock, not expecting you to wall run past him. He's dispatched with a quick jab to the throat followed by a knee to the gut. He collapses, hitting his head harshly on the steps, and you hear a crunch. Choosing not to worry about it, you survey the area for weapons. While you still have the submachine gun, you want a little more firepower when you **** the gang's leader.

Feeling a little bit of inspiration, you take a closer look at the turret. It seems detachable, and if your test with Barbara earlier this week was any indication, you shouldn't have any trouble wielding it as a weapon. You place hand on the thick metal barrel as well as the handle and heave. A few straining moments later you hear a crack as the turret detaches, and all of a sudden you are now wielding a large heavy machine gun.

Finally feeling adequately armed, you decide to head to the fourth floor, which happens the be the top. It seems that Canary and yours attack has flushed out all the guards, and you find no one as you sneak to the top floor. You scan quietly, listening carefully, but it seems abandoned. The only sounds are coming from beneath you, and you hope that Laurel is okay. You knew she could beat any of these mooks one on one, but who knew how many members this gang had?

You carefully sneak around, and find what you think you're looking for: the hotel penthouse. While this hotel certainly wasn't a five star, it still had some luxury commodities, and you imagine this is where you would hide out if you were a villain. You pause, take a deep breath, and kick the door opening, ready to fire on anyone in the room.

Who do you find the penthouse?
