Chapter 2 by dracone dracone

Who finds the Forms and where are they?

Bill Darington Finds Them in a Sealed Room

The preparation, protectiveness, and paranoia of Dr. Frank had gone into overdrive when he thought of unqualified individuals gaining access to his work, so he hid some of his more interesting projects in places and ways that only those of appropriate intellectual capability would hopefully gain proper access to. Among his hiding places were the dormitories that were known to house the more intellectually capable students; among them was an off-campus facility that he had actually helped fund for a few years to ensure his safeguards would be in place all over the city. This off-campus dorm had even earned a number of unflattering, and very derogatory, nicknames, all poking fun at the high-intelligence students that formed there, from the more athletically-oriented factions of the school.

Enter William Darington, often referred to as Bill, like most other individuals with his name. Bill was a Robotics major with a minor in Biomechanics; he was dedicated to the dream of making more life-like robotic prosthetics for those who lost limbs and more life-like robotic animals for those who were restricted from having pets for reasons of renting, health, and so on. It was coming close to thesis time again, and Bill had finished his project as much as humanly possible; his advisors had even looked it over a few dozen times and couldn't find any more that needed to be addressed on their end, so he decided to see what the dorm's facility had in the way of materials for him to use for any personal projects. That's when he found the console in the basement, which gave him a number of tricky but rewarding problems to solve. After going through almost 50 individual problems on the console, far more than he had anticipated, the door to a hidden and sealed chamber slid open.

When he entered the chamber, Bill pulled out his phone and used its flashlight feature to search for the light switch. Once he found it, Bill flipped the switch, and the door slid closed behind him with almost no noise; if it hadn't been in the corner of his eye, he would have never noticed. Once the lights were on and the door was closed, one of the large monitors that was well-hidden in the far wall flicked on, and a massive version of Dr. Frank appeared, talking about his fears for his legacy and addressing the individual in the chamber itself by saying the lab also stored some of his works he did not wish to fall into the hands of underqualified, or unqualified, individuals. The recording went on to tell Bill he was free to use the facility as he saw fit and even direct him to the instructions for leaving the facility via a map that also had other hidden entry/exit passageways for him to make use of.

A quick look around told Bill there were quite a few materials he could make use of for quite a few different projects. Of course, most of them were in crates and boxes that had fading labels on them. He certainly didn't remember anything like this being on the lease agreement.

How Does Bill Respond? What Does He Do Next?
