Chapter 6 by Toryc Toryc

First night in his new home

Better than expected!

A large smile spread across Wallace's face. "Hell yeah, dude! You will love them! They are my special receipe!"

"You made then yourself?" Isaac inquired.

"Yeah! My mom taught me how when I was little. I cook all the time!"

To be honest, Isaac was a little afraid. This guys seemed rather simple minded, so his expectation was to find a big mess in the nice kitchen, and a pile of messy discs that resembled pancakes. Fortunately for him, this expectation was shattered like thin glass. "Whoa!" he involuntarily exclaimed.

The kitchen was still rather clean, much more than anticipated. There was a pile, but they were neatly stacked and well balanced, with each flat cake a beautiful golden color. Next to them was a small glass pitcher filled with a thick brown liquid, presumably syrup. The bags of white and brown sugar on the counter, as well as a saucepan on the stove, suggested that he made this too. Looking past Pancacke Mountain, Isaac found a large plate full of crispy bacon, accompanied by a bowl of scrambled eggs dotted with black pepper.

"This... this looks great! You made all this by yourself? That is impressive!" Isaac admitted this honestly.

"Thanks, man!" Wallace exclaimed proudly, patting his new roommate on the back. He looked over this breakfast style feasts in front of them. Isaac was about to say something, but noticed his newfound friend's face began losing his seemingly boundless energy and glee. He sighed heavily before speaking again. "You see, my mom taught me how to cook before... before she got sick. Dad was always busy with work, traveling mostly, so when she got too weak to do it, I took over as the family chef." His voice carried a solemn weight to it, like it was hard to get out of his mouth. "Don't misunderstand: I enjoy cooking! I just... remember the hard times. I was only 12 when I took over the cooking full time. I have 5 brothers and sisters, all younger than me, so they all looked up to me, and I had to provide for them..." His voice trembled. His eyes were watering. He was a breath away from breaking down and crying. Suddenly, his energy returned and a smile broke the gloomy expression he was wearing. "But enough of the past! Our guests should be here any minute!"

"Guests?" inquired Isaac. "What guests?"
