Chapter 7 by FlightoftheBeers FlightoftheBeers

Surely it was just a one-time thing?

Beginning an affair

You woke up the next morning in bed next to Viola. The sun was barely up as it tried to peak from behind the curtains. You saw her sleeping form and felt yourself fill with adoration. That night had been something else... Brenna said she'd take care of it and gave you a thumbs up while you left the bar.

Turns out she told Tegan you had to stay late at the office to work on campaign stuff. It was a rather vague excuse, but it'd seemed to work. You knew you should feel guilty, but it was difficult to do so with Viola right there. You wanted to paint her into your memory.

She stirred awake and gave you a sleepy smile, "thinking about how you're going to **** me?" She joked, groggily sitting up in bed.

"I don't know how to describe how I'm feeling, Viola. Last night was something I'd never felt before." You knew you sounded like a lovesick virgin, but you couldn't help but be **** with her.

She brushed her hair back from her face with a blush, "yea, I wasn't expecting it to be that good, either. Does that mean you... want to do it again?"

"Yes," the word left your lips before you could even think. "I mean, if you want to. I know I'm complicated right now. And I know it's wrong. I shouldn't want to see where this goes, but I do. I feel like I can be myself around you."

"As much as it scares me to admit, I feel the same way," Viola nodded. "I need to be honest with you: I knew who you were when you walked in. I do my best to know when anyone moves into this small town... I've been investigating the sitting mayor for a while now and—"

It was your turn to cut her off with a kiss. "No business talk in bed." This earned a small giggle from her as she returned your kiss.

"Are you sure this is what you want to do? It could affect your campaign..." Viola gritted her teeth. She definitely wanted this. It's not that she knew you would be at that bar, but when she did see you, she felt that she needed to get to know you. There was something that drew her to you, though she wasn't sure what at the time.

"I'm sure Brenna has thought about that. I'm also sure she expected something like this to happen. I don't know why, but she probably hoped for something like this." You pulled Viola in close and brought her back down to the bed to rest against you.

"But you barely know me. What if I'm a murderer?" She looked up at you with doe-eyes, though you could sense the hidden teasing behind them.

"I suppose that's a risk I'm willing to take."

It wasn't easy to figure this out. After all, you were running a campaign, working, and now running around with another woman. That's not to say you didn't enjoy it; Viola was a breath of fresh air. You almost wished... No, you were too far in to this now. You'd been campaigning for a month now. You couldn't just pull out of the race.

Honestly, the only thing keeping you sane was Viola. Brenna kept you busy with the campaign, work kept you busy with work, and Tegan complained that she didn't want to go to all of the campaigning events with you. That's when Brenna had an idea. Tegan could still live outside of the spotlight, but you needed a partner for the campaign trail. They would find a "temporary" spouse, or someone to play the part of your wife for the road.

Tegan hated this idea. She was your wife! When you brought up bringing her to your events, she said she was tired of it. You couldn't help but get a bit frustrated; she didn't really do anything but always seemed to be tired. You worked, campaigned, and even made time for Viola. Maybe you should have made time for Tegan, too, but you felt like she was taking advantage of you.

All the while you had Brenna whispering in your ear. "Viola really knows how to hold herself" or "Viola is great with talking to people." You couldn't help but start comparing Viola to your wife. The arguments for Tegan started to wade into simple "we've known each other forever" waters instead of solid foundations. Meanwhile, Viola kept endearing herself to you. You were almost convinced that they were in on this together, but you made sure to do your own research on Viola. You figured that she'd had no way of really knowing Brenna unless they set it up that night.

Maybe your detective work was flawed. Maybe you were blinded. Maybe you didn't care. For the most part, things were going well. Nothing was going to stop that... right?

Does everything stay good?
