Bedtime

John paused at the bottom of the stairs, returned to the back door and let in Beau. She caught the faintest draft of cigarette smoke and froze. Mitch. "Son of a bitch," she cursed under her breath. What would he tell Bo? Surely Bo was not with him. Mitch must have seen something to keep him from letting his presence be known. And he must have been there a while to bother smoking.

John returned inside and padded up the stairs after rubbing Beau's head goodnight. She knew he would sleep in front of the guest room door on guard. Upstairs she stripped off the dirty clothes and cum soaked panties. Pausing for a moment to consider how much had drained from her before stepping into the river slate shower and cranking up the temp. Her mind bounced from curiosity to what Mitch witnessed and what he would disclose to Bo. Her thoughts drifted to sleep as she leaned on the shower wall, body caressed by the warm water.

Doe listened to the pitter-patter of paws on the hardwood floor come up to his door. The tapping was followed by a deep inhale and snort by the Labrador and chased with a heavy plop. He wondered briefly about letting the dog in his room and decided against disturbing the pooch. He needed to shower off and get ready for bed. The water pulsed against his back and felt himself drifting into a state of exhaustion that he should have felt much earlier in the evening. As much as he desired to have been invited upstairs, Doe just wanted to sleep. Not bothering to dress, he barely made it under the covers before drifting off into a deep sleep. And so he dreamed of times that were truly memories now his reality.
