Chapter 35 by ThomasMoro

Badges? They don't need no stinking badges!

Mina looked around to see yet another man in a black police uniform, only this one had blonde hair, not black like Inspector Kamp's. He also leaned on a cane as if he needed it to support himself. Next to him stood a short, squat, not exactly handsome dark-haired man in a black police uniform whose looks were such that he made Lucy's servant Baldric look like local lady-killer Gaston. He too leaned on a cane as if it was a part of the official police uniform. And next to him stood a young blonde woman whose black dress seemed to be the female equivalent of a police uniform.

"Who the heck are you?" asked Inspector Kamp of the blonde-haired man.

The blonde-haired man smiled a cold smile and said, "Allow me to introduce me. My name is Herr Otto Flick of the Austrian-Hungarian Imperial Police. And these two lesser beings at my side are my assistant Engelbert Von Smallhausen and my secretary Helga."

"Wait," said Mina. "Helga does not have a last name?"

"Does she need one?" asked Herr Flick with a shrug. "Anyway, I have been investigating all foreign visitors to Transylvania ever since a recent incident involving an **** on the manager of a local train station. And how interesting to find you here, Inspector Kamp, a man who has a history of taking the law into his own hands."

"I seek only the monster," said Inspector Kamp. "Nothing else."

"That's what they all say," said Herr Flick. "But you and I... We both know better. No doubt you also know nothing about the mysterious invisible Peeping Tom that was reported to have been on board the Orient Express. Or the mysterious wolf lady who was also reported to be on that train."

"I'm surprised that a member of the Austrian-Hungarian Imperial Police would involve themselves with such cases," said Inspector Kamp. "After all, everyone knows that there is no such things as wolf ladies or invisible people."

"Ahem!" cried Lucy's invisible maid Susan.

"Not now, Susan," whispered Lucy.

"Wouldn't a man with a wooden arm be hard to overlook?" asked Lucy. "Surely if he was involved in any of the things you mentioned, it seems odd that no one noticed him."

"That's a question for us to be concerned with, not you," said Herr Flick. "If there's one thing I hate, it's interfering foreigners."

"At last something we can agree on," said Lucy.

"Oh, be quiet," said Mina.

"In any event, I see **** but to bring you in for questioning, Inspector Kamp," said Herr Flick.

"Why not question me here?" asked Inspector Kamp.

"What?" asked Herr Flick. "Interrogate you right here without any of my official instruments of ****? What fun would that be?"
