Bad news and bad choices

About half an hour later Mr. Chandler comes out of his office in shirtsleeves, giving you a smile as he passes your desk.

"I'm out for a while Lisa. Take messages. I'll be back in an hour or so."

"Yes Mr. Chandler, I'll take care of it," you tell him, giving him another of your spectacular smiles.

He's barely out of sight when your cell phone buzzes. Irritated, you pick it up, then feel cold anxiety as you see that it's your landlord. You and your room mates are behind on the rent, and you've been dreading this call. Reluctantly, you press the button to answer it.

"I'm out of patience," he barks into the phone, not bothering with any niceties. "You and your friends are six weeks behind, and I've had enough of your bullshit promises. Either I see some money this evening, or I'll evict you."

"Please Mr. Berridge, I just started a new job today and I'll have money real soon, please? Just a little more time?

"You have until six tonight to come up with some cash or you and your friends are out. That's all the time you have," he barks, hanging up on you.

You sit holding your phone, fear and worry making you tremble, not sure of what to do.
