Chapter 2 by Daylan Daylan

Where to begin?

Babysitting Gig

It's a Friday night and you don't really have plans this weekend (much to your disappointment) so you're at home when your phone rings unexpectedly.

You answer it and are surprised to hear the voice of Mrs. Thornhaven, your neighbor from three houses down. "Lisa, darling," she says, "Apologies for calling so suddenly but my husband and I are in a bit of a bind. We have this thing we simply must go to and it's going to keep us out all night but our babysitter had to cancel on us at the last minute and we haven't been able to find anyone else and we need someone to keep an eye on Victoria for a few hours."

"What about Cody?" you ask, remembering back in your babysitting days having had to watch their older child a few times before his sister had come along.

"Well that's why it would only be for a few hours," Mrs. Thornhaven replies, "The boy's playing some kind of games with his friends but he said he'd be back around ten at the latest... but he is eighteen now and you know how boys are at that age. We'll pay you one hundred dollars to do it."

Your eyes widen as you look at the clock and notice it's a little after seven. A hundred dollars for potentially less than three hours of work sounded pretty good, actually. And from what you remember of them, Victoria was a fairly sweet little girl (she was about... what, ten now?) and Cody was...

Okay, Cody had been, if you had to be honest, a little bit on the creepy side. Not in any way you could say made him dangerous but he'd always been the quiet, introverted type who didn't say much and while he'd behaved well enough, you remembered a few times back when you'd been nineteen and he'd been fourteen, when you'd been there more for his little sister than him, he'd just... stare at you in this very intense sort of way. Said stare would usually be performed whenever he thought you weren't watching and seemed to be glued to your chest when you were sitting back on the couch or burning a hole in the backside of your jeans whenever you had to bend over or lean in for something.

Maybe he'd just had a crush back then he hadn't been able to articulate but it still creeped you out a bit when you'd caught him doing it. Of course, given your dream situation lately, you were suddenly reminded that a few of those said dreams had involved your body aflame with passion as eyes that looked at you with that same kind of naked intensity Cody had in his drank in the reactions of your equally naked form.

You shake your head to banish those thoughts from your mind as you say, "It's been a few years since I've babysat, but I'll do it. Let me get changed and I'll be right over."

"Oh Lisa, you are simply an angel," Mrs. Thornhaven purrs, "You have no idea how much we appreciate this!"

"No need to thank me," you say, as their money will do you just fine, "This is no trouble at all."

Is It No Trouble At All?
