BW:F Chapter 8

The helicopter rotates and the gunmen inside take aim. Spider-Man fires several bursts of webbing, sprinting across the meadow. Not having tall buildings around limits his mobility considerably, and he’s seriously questioning the wisdom of his involvement in this particular trip.

Fifty meters away, Jen has turned green. In the tatters of her outfit, she tears a fencepost out of the ground and hefts it like a javelin.

“I got you, lady!” Spider-Man makes a mighty leap, grabbing the woman in white who has just come running out of the house and yanking her away from more wreckage from the jet, which is landing dangerously and starting fires all over.

Jen throws her fencepost, missing the helicopter by at least five meters.

“Seriously?” Happy demands. He’s on the ground, covered in soot, coughing.

“I didn’t play a lot of sports,” Jen says with a shrug. “Look out!”

Happy looks up to see a jagged piece of metal from the jet falling toward him. Suddenly Jen is there, punching the massive section of the jet’s wing. She helps him up.

“Hydra,” he gasps, pushing his jacket back and drawing the pistol at his hip. “I hate Hydra.” As he opens fire on the helicopter, the front door of the farmhouse bursts into pieces as a lithe figure in black comes flying out onto the porch. The ninja saves herself from the worst of the fall with grace and skill, but she’s still in rough shape from the ass-kicking that a very upset Black Widow has been giving her.

Nat emerges from the house, but gunfire from the helicopter immediately forces her to hop the railing and take cover.

Happy changes targets and fires at the ninja, but she’s too far away and he’s concussed. His shots go wild as she sprints toward the helicopter. Jen has to shield Happy from the blistering covering fire while Spider-Man keeps the woman in white safe behind the house.

Nat emerges into the open in time to see the ninja grab a rope from the chopper. She lifts her hand to take a shot with her bracelet, but she knows that the ninja’s out of range.

Annoyed, she joins Jen and Happy as Spider-Man emerges with the shaken soul mate.

Nat looks over her shoulder at the smoldering remains of the jet, taking stock of the situation.

One very lucky Hydra ninja, gone.

One Quinjet, wrecked.

One penis, still sore.

Six soul mates, missing.

One Abomination, also missing.

Several bruises, kind of annoying.

Two and a half Avengers and one chauffeur, all without a ride home.

Happy looks down at the empty pistol in his hand. He drops the magazine and puts in a new one in, brushing some soot from his suit.

“So can we get like Uber out here or what?” he asks. “What are you looking at?” he asks Nat, whose eyes were unconsciously drawn to Jen in her tattered outfit.

She never noticed how, um, impressive She-Hulk was before.

Nat looks away.

“Nothing,” she says.
