Ayana, freshly bitten werewolf

Those who knew Ayana knew she wasn't passionate about many things, but what she did enjoy, she did as much as possible. Scrawny and quiet, she nonetheless had a bookish charm, with her round glasses, curly black hair that framed her face, and clear dark skin, though her reserved nature made it hard for people to connect with her. However, she did love certain things and causes, and caring for animals was one of them. As such, she was a regular volunteer at her local animal shelter.

She came in one day, dressed as usual in a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt (you don't dress fancy dealing with animals, after all), but as she opened the doors she was met with a most unusual sight. A number of dog catchers, along with a few of her coworkers, all doing their best to calm down a wolf, of all things- not a common sight in a suburban town so close to the city. The wolf itself, a big grey animal, was quite agitated, but as the door opened, suddenly became very still, and met Ayana's eyes. For a split second, all were still, Ayana and the wolf looking right at each other, the other people in the room relieved as the wolf stopped thrashing against its leash. And then Ayana wasn't quite sure what happened, as fast as everything went down.

"RRRRROWF!"

"Oh my God, Ayana!"

"Someone catch that damn thing!"

Three things ran at Ayana, one after another. First was the wolf, using the momentary distraction to bolt away from its handlers. It came up against Ayana; she was blocking the entire doorway, despite her size, and as it jumped up and tried to shove her away it must have felt some resistance. Maybe it interpreted her flailing limbs as trying to grab it, because as her right arm flew up to her face, the wolf gave it a small chomp. Then, it bolted off, out through the open door.

The next thing to come at her, as she fell back to the floor, was the group of Animal Control agents, running after the escaping canine. And finally, her coworkers, coming to make sure she was alright.

"Oh my God, Ayana!" repeated Lindsey, a tall thin ginger coworker, "are you okay? Jim, go get some bandages and disinfectant, she's been bit."

"I-I'm okay," Ayana said, sitting up. She helped Lindsey get her sweatshirt off- the bite wasn't deep, but that gray hoodie and white tanktop had gotten a huge splotch of red across each of them. She was treated quickly- basic wound care was almost easier for a lot of the volunteers when being done to a human rather than an irritated animal- and offered the day off, but she shrugged it off.

"Well... If you say so", Lindsey said, always the concerned team leader, "Wolf didn't seem like there was anything wrong with it, aside from being this close to the city. It got dropped off by somebody, and it got taken in cause he told us it was a wolfdog, but as soon as we figured out it was a real-ass wolf, we called Animal Control. " The explanation made enough sense to Ayana, though she was just as confused why a wolf was around their town.

The rest of the day proceeded normally- taking care of the animals, feeding them, washing them, etc. The only reminders of that morning came from her sore shoulder, and from the cats being cagey around her, probably smelling the wolf on her or something. Some hours later, Ayana had finished her shift, and was headed home, which couldn't have come any sooner; she found herself becoming just exhausted as night fell! Saying her goodbyes to the other volunteers, she headed home.
